I personally would rather parents lose the freedom to make harmful and dangerous vaccine decisions for their children, as they have in other medical matters.

Parental freedom doesn't include the right to harm your child.


Tragic. All this misinformation, and the witting and unwitting purveyors of it, helped send him to an early grave.

Reminds me of this young man I saw on the news a few days ago who wasn't vaccinated and didn't previously believe it was the big a deal. He'd been in intensive care and was still in hospital. He was now on the news urging people to be vaccinated (especially as younger age-groups have a lower vaccine take-up).


Last thing we should want to come from this pandemic: more kids learning science at home from anti-vaxxers.

How so? I'd imagine it's fairly self-evident that scientific literacy reduces the likelihood of being an anti-vaxxer. Where's the best place for a child to acquire that? School. What's the alternative? Home schooling by anti-vaxxer parents. Now high education correlates to having fewer children, so the anti-vaxxers denied access to that education will likely outbreed the more educated populace. Let that run for a couple of generations and then you may just start having problems.

Indeed I would as far as to suspend government benefits - unemployment, food stamps, EBT, public housing, social security etc. - for people who refuse to get vaccinated without a medical reason. Actually would probably address the most vaccine hesitant segment of society.

I’d also - to help boost confidence in among the vaccine hesitant - remove the vaccine manufacturers immunity from lawsuits over the vaccines. Right now they have no liability for long term consequences and for some people that doesn’t inspire confidence in the product.

de Blasio (ne Wilhelm) is making it condition of employment for city workers and wants it to extend that to include private employees. Taking away someone’s employment is a pretty big stick. Why threaten some and not others? Consequences should be across the board, not reserved only for workers. Also paying people $5000 now would be pretty unfair on those who already got it the vaccine, though I suppose you could back date it.

And regardless of all that, taking away the vaccine manufacturers liability from lawsuits is also key as it would increase confidence in the product - one of the reasons for vaccine hesitancy I am led to believe.

I agree social security would be hard to stop as it is an entitlement, but most benefits are discretionary so conditions could apply if there was a the political will.
