No pandemic is forever.

Of course, two options:

1. We take action to end the pandemic quickly and on our terms while saving as many lives as possible

OR 2. we wait until the pandemic ends by everybody who has the virus dying off, which will take longer if it's even possible.

I know which option I'd like for us to take

That's a ridiculous comment.

You DO wash your hands but uncounted generations didn't because the dominant theories about the origins of disease were either miasma or demons. You wash your hands because the world discovered germ theory and literally everything changed, forever.

You know, the thing you're saying won't happen, but that you, yourself, are evidence of.

Do you wash your hands, Lumen? Before the germ theory of disease was discovered, sanitation wasn't considered something to do regularly.

But people didn't used to. They had to adopt the practice to deal with disease. And now everyone does. And it's just considered normal.

The fact that you wash your hands is proof that masks could become normal.

It won't be 80 years. If history is a guide the average is two years. The only pandemics that lasted longer were cholera and bubonic plague neither of which is airborne.

How long will this one be? Unknown at this point. Resources that could be used to find better meds are being spent on the people to survive the lockdowns since 45 was such a moron for managing.

There is a pill Pfizer is developing that should be out by the end of the year. There is also a cholesterol drug called Fenofibrate that is showing promise as a possible cure.

Indeed. There isn't going to be a cure; it may handle delta and it may not be good with lambda.

This does have to be regulated so "protecting our shareholders" doesn't become the guiding force and people end up taking drugs they don't need.....

It’s not mandated that every single person in Japan wear a mask when leaving the house though, which is what I think Lumen was getting at.

Not that I’m defending him. I think we’ve already established that his opinions don’t carry much weight in this thread.
