My mother, Hyun Jung Grant( maiden name Kim), was one of the victims of the shootings in Atlanta, Georgia at Gold Spa. This is something that should never happen to anyone. She was a single mother who dedicated her whole life to providing for my brother and I. It is only my brother and I in the United States. The rest of my family is in South Korea and are unable to come. She was one of my best friends and the strongest influence on who we are today. Losing her has put a new lens on my eyes on the amount of hate that exists in our world. As much as I want to grieve and process the reality that she is gone, I have a younger brother to take care of and matters to resolve as a result of this tragedy. Frankly, I have no time to grieve for long. I will need to figure out the living situation for my brother and I for the next few months, possibly year. As of now I have been advised to move out of my current home within the end of March to save money and find a new place to live. My biggest priority right now is to put my mother to rest and plan out the funeral but due to some legal complications, I am unable to obtain my mother's body. I don't think I'll be able to figure out this whole situation along with legal matters if given 2 weeks to move out. Any donation will be used as funds for basic living necessities for my brother and I such as food, bills, and other expenses. I wish to stay in my current home for at least one more month to sort everything out. Any amount would be forever appreciated. Please everyone just stay safe and check up on your friends and loved ones that may feel endangered.

That's fair. We have some good indications that hint to the motivations of the murderer, but it might be wise to not come to a conclusion this early on. Though it seems like both racism and inceldom/sexual frustration played a role in this, but which played a bigger role is still ambiguous.

He told his wife he didn’t want to go outside anymore due to abuse (walking down the street, pass a couple and get chingchongchingchong comments). 8 killed in one spree is a record for 2021. In the whole US.

Make that a record for 2020 AND 2021. Three incidents last year took 7 lives, two of them were in someone's house. The incidents with 6, this year, were also predominantly in private houses.

It is fair to say that shooting incidents in public get more media coverage. Probably because there are witness who can be interviewed, a crime scene to photograph, and sometimes civilian video to make a good audiovisual story. The greatest source of bias is what sort of people the witnesses are, who wait around to talk to media, and what they think up to relate about the event. If they have a positive interest in getting on the news, they're very liable to exaggerate what they think they heard or saw.

There is a bright side though. Social media greatly favors witnesses who got the event on their phone, over eyewitnesses just claiming to have seen or heard something.

It’s going to be a LONG while before those horrid people go away and/or are scared to spew their racist hatred. The GOP is openly embracing white supremacists and/or downplaying acts of far-right racist violence because they want their votes in order to stay in power. The Trump stain of racism is damn near permanent on the GOP.

This type of killer is the least likely to be deterred by the death penalty. Not that the death penalty is an effective deterrent overall: people just assume that because it feels like a deterrent to them. People who shoot at cops (for instance) after committing murders, clearly are not bothered by the prospect of dying.

State killing, at enormous expense, and with no or negative deterrent effect on others, serves no purpose but to gratify murderous urges of the public. People who, for some unfathomable reason, react to horrible acts by wanting the state to commit horrible acts on their behalf.

I want the opposite. I want the state to do as much good as possible, by doing the least harm (acknowledging that some harm is necessary, eg taxation). And definitely not set a bad example by killing its own people.

Just because they want US citizenship doesn't mean it should happen. The fact that they want out of their country of origin gives me more and not less reasons for me to want to deny those people immigration of any sort.
