Yeah, it really is kind of nuts. The issue's been around for ages, but it used to be a very niche thing that most people didn't think about too much. Now all of a sudden people are making a huge thing about it because the GOP cultural grievance machine needs another axe to grind.
bingoOf the 22 states that introduced legislation this year to ban healthcare for transgender youth, several introduced multiple bills with a range of harmful impacts. Prior to 2020, not a single state had introduced legislation to ban this medical care.
it's the latest front in the culture wars
it's very good among the base
does it play well outside of that
...well, not sure, but my money's on no
My money's on no too.
I feel like the progressive side of the culture wars has kind of jumped the shark, and I am not on board with the direction some people want to take it -- so you would think I'd be reachable if the GOP made an effort to expand their base -- but then I look at the way the GOP is running around screaming about conspiracy theories and I just think, "Nope, can't vote for that." And the trans panic is just one more thing that's turning me off. There are so many things we could be doing to make the country better, and what does the GOP do? They have a meltdown over some transgirl on a soccer team. It's a total waste of time.
Maybe if they offered a coherent alternative to the Dems' agenda I'd be a swing voter, but no... They are just having a mental breakdown over the existence of people that aren't cishet white Christians. It's very unappealing.
