Maybe 'cursing' here refers to spewing magical spells and mantras with an intent of harm to the recipient, idk.

As long as you are not using it in a derogatory sense, then yeah I guess it is sorta ok, although I do it as a last measure. Now being in extreme pain or something terrible happening is a different story.
