It can be a way of denoting an informal relaxed setting or as an emotional intensifier, which is why you often see it in such apparently different circumstances as friendly banter, fighting talk, or in comedy.

To disapprove in all circumstances is probably to not be much fun to be around as you're trying to impose standards that don't fit the context. In more formal settings, you're signifying yourself as outside of the norms of when and where you are. Which might be something you want to do to make a point on certain occasions, but is something you should expect people to react and evaluate you for.

I may be wrong, but it would seem to me as if words such as fuck and shit and all their friends are becoming less offensive to the general public and the words that are considered the most offensive in English are increasingly becoming slurs against minority groups.

Not that this is a bad thing, of course - the latter words exist explicitly to demean said groups and I will admit I'm fairly uneasy with hearing people refer to others with a certain word beginning with F that demeans a group I belong to, I just thought it might be interesting and relevant to the discussion to share this.

assigning good/bad to words is silly. Sure, there are words that should not be used, ever, but those words are are not cuss words. There is a time and place to use appropriate words, but also if you are fucking angry then it is appropriate to describe what you are feeling as fucking angry, sometimes really upset or grumpy just doesn't cover it.

My grandparents HATE cuss words and I'm really, really close with them and cuss words are apart of my normal vocabulary and I tried to never use them around them, but as I got older I stopped caring as much about it, they still hate them sure, but after many times arguing about it, using that language is a part of who I am and sure I don't HAVE to use them, but they want a relationship with me and want to know the real me not the version of me I give them which means they accept that cuss words are apart of that. What really drove it all home and won the war for me with them: my dad HATES the word cute, despises it, physically cringes when he hears it the way most people do with moist, but it is probably every other word that comes out of my grandma's mouth, everything is just "so cute" to her and my dad would cringe when she says it, and she would try to not say it, but inevitably it still comes out. SO we talked about how like it just slips out and you don't think about it and how "bad words" is a perception and therefore everyone can have a different perception of the same thing, AND that sometimes there is just no other replacement for the word cute. Once they grasped all of those things and we agreed on them about the word cute, we then applied it to cuss words and they are completely unfazed by them now.
