Also this. Any aircraft flying at relatively low altitude (or any altitude really) is in danger of effective AA stuff, don't just hate on the A-10.
Also, stealth A-10 equivalent how about that XD

Problems in iraqi command aside (can't defend the indefensible) what I'm getting at is that there's only a select few nations in the world that can plausibly plan to, you know, resist americans militarily in a capacity that doesn't involve escaping to the mountains and setting up a government in exile in some nepalese basement or, like, a decent apartment in the netherlands.Qhevak wrote:Kubra wrote: In fairness, being a little guy invaded by the US and company is a basically an invasion of space aliens.
I mean yeah (though arguably the Iraqi military's extreme overcentralization hurt them even harder than technical inferiority). And if space aliens invaded us I'd bet their obsolete ground attack starfighters would be perfectly effective too.

The GSh-30-2 is a far more accurate weapon simply because it doesn't vomit out shells like an oversized MG 42.

Besides, the only time you will use an aircraft gun these days is if you are strafing helpless missile boats or equally helpless Talibans.

One less missile boat is one less missile boats.
Ok but we also need a new AC-130 because those things are awesome. Whoever decided it was a good idea to stick a giant gun out the side of an aircraft was a genius.

None of which a Brazilian turboprop could do.
^This. Everyone should be paying attention to how the Turks and now Azeris have utilized drone warfare as close air support and fire concentration platforms. They are changing the game and basically turning cheap drones into flying artillery, it's going to be mad.

I recall a specific incident. They were testing the Bradley against RPGs. The test initially went well, but one of the officers attending the test cried foul, that the RPGs were intentionally being fired at too short a distance, i.e. they did not reach their maximum velocity in terms of what would usually be encountered on the battlefield. The test was rerun on the insistence of the officer, firing the RPG from further away. The result was catastrophic for the Bradley: the Bradley was annihilated, all of the hatches were blown out, and the test dummies inside were blown out too.
It is fun that the movie references that specific incident that happened, albeit in a far more outlandish way.
