While I agree with you that Israeli settlements have to stop and be reversed where possible, we are flying pretty close to ethnic cleansing territory with the German example.

Both Turks in the deportation segment of the genocide and Armenians in Artsakh cited internal security when they were expelling entire settlements.

Not that I would say that Israeli settlements are equivalent to Armenians in Anatolia or Azeris in Nagorno Karabakh, of course.

Secondly, "many years ago" implies some historical continuity, the Judeans were expelled from Judea in the first and second centuries AD. No Ashkenazi Jew had lived in Palestine for thousands of years when the Zionist movement began. Moreover, most Palestinians are also descended from Jews from Judea. Further, the ancient Kingdom of Israel was not actually on the entire territory of modern Palestine, modern Israel is in fact many times larger than the ancient Kingdom. So the ancient land claim thing simply doesn't work.

I replied to this twice before but it's important to note that Ben-Gurion's views in 37 were different from those in 47 and that so-called "population transfers" were seen as moral and peaceful at the time (the Peel Comission even recommended both parties use it), so it seems odd to blame people for holding a globally very mainstream position. And Arabs had no intention of living in peace with Jews; in fact, Hajj Amin al-Husseini, President of All-Palestine, was a literal Nazi who promised the Nazi leadership in Berlin in 43 that he'd orchestrate a second Holocaust.

The notion that the proportion of land must equal the population's is rather simplistic – and frankly silly. Not all land is equally valuable. And not all borders are equally workable. It is odd to leave those considerations out of the picture. As well as the fact that the UN expected many more Jewish refugees to flee to Israel (after all, WWII had just ended).
