But of course even that tiny amount of nuance is immediately overlooked.

Well, that. And Sai showing up.

The Not-sees did have recruiting drives in some unexpected places, Africa being one of them afaik. The UK was colonizing the shite out of Africa and India and etc. at the time so the fact that some Africans and Indians and etc. signed up and joined the Wehrmacht doesn't surprise me. The Not-sees held no immediate territorial ambitions outside of Central/Eastern Europe whereas the UK was trying to hold onto it's pirated "empire" by any and all means necessary. It's a weird allegiance by our standards but those non-white Wehrmacht guys probably saw the Not-sees as the lesser of two evils?! I've no idea honestly. The existence of non-white recruits in German military formations during WW2, and their reasons for joining the German military, isn't much talked about outside of historians.

Limbaugh on the radio and Limbaugh off the radio were apparently two different people. A case of Jekyll and Hyde, one a crass bigmouth and the other a guy quiet to the point of being shy. It's more to be pitied that we didn't see more of the off-the-air Limbaugh, the actual man rather than the public bloviator. I listened to him from time to time and always found him to be amusing, well-spoken and witty even when I totally shook my head in disagreement with him. He was narrow-minded and shilled for the GOP, which I can't stand (I'm no fan of the Democrats either, btw), but he was a huge giver to various charitable organizations, championed the Constitution and genuinely loved the country.

I actually tuned in when his wife announced his death and I immediately felt bad more for her than for him.

His followers and allies will praise him to the hilt, overlooking his faults; his detractors will hail him as Satan incarnate and overlook his virtues.

Mixed feelings here, but I don't take pleasure in his- or anyone's- death. It's foul, ghoulish, utterly ghastly and subhuman to celebrate death. Anyone who celebrates death--- may the Grim Reaper knock next at your door!

Rush Limbaugh made a living of celebrating other peoples deaths for decades. So you got your wish with him.

Still, the fact that millions of people enjoyed him doing so does imply that either the USA has milions of subhumans walking around - or that your judgement is not shared by many.

We enter this world with nothing, and leave it with less than nothing.

I'm not going to celebrate his death or anything, but you can be certain I will not grieve it either.

The most I can do is avoid speaking ill of the dead, and leave it at that.

Unrepentant, lifelong piece of shit dies from a disease he denied existed after decades of making a profit out of making the world a worse place for others. He did not deserve to go gently into the void at age 70 with impunity.

Whoever he was privately doesn't really matter when his public persona was the one that had the most influence on the world around him. So fuck either versions of him.

You know, looking back, it's always striking how terribly conservative media ages.

Like you look at Rush Limbaugh's segments in the 1980s and you can't help but feel absolutely horrified. The stances are just beyond the pale, especially on social issues. Something that is rarely matched by his contemporaries on the left at the time (heck, sometimes those guys come across as more rational than today's left but details..) . Sure, they were wrong on some points but the gist is rarely malevolent, and the general feeling is always of someone reasonable.

I've been seeing people putting up a bunch of his quotes, and yeah, it's universally agreed that they are terrible (at least on this thread). Now to think how will they look in 10 years? In 50? In 100?

Limbaugh's content, it is probable, is going to join the large heap of forgotten conservative media personalities and writers from ages past.

I very much like how in this thread we have one poster defending Limbaugh by claiming that everything he said was a joke, and that he can't have been a racist because his producer was Black, and also we have another infamously racist poster defending Limbaugh by claiming that everything he said was the truth that his audience wanted to hear. It's always a laugh when conservatives here try to do PR for their public figures, only for Saiwania to come along and ruin it for them for not trying to hide his power level.

That's the double-edged sword of using dog-whistling in your extremist propaganda: you may choose to play coy for the normies, but your target audience has no reason to do the same.

Also somehow making racist statements is okay if "it's just a prank bro," but wanting healthcare to cover health-related expenditure is "vile."

I have some suspicions that Rush would still be around for another decade if he was never a smoker. Perhaps he'd of been around for 2 more decades or a bit longer if he never had the drug addiction and took physical fitness seriously and put in the work for bodybuilding. 80s to 90s or older is usually really the end for most people regardless of how they were.

The few people who reached the 110s to 120s range were basically perfect and had all the stars of good luck and good habits align for them that defines excellent health.

Look, if women want their insurance to cover pills to help with ovarian cysts, then they have to post sex tapes for dirty old radio hosts to watch.

It’s irrelevant if he was a different person to his family or whatever. His public persona was what most knew and as a public person, the dude wasn’t exactly lovable. Act like an ass and that’s what many will remember you as when you die. Simple.

Am I happy he died? No. Do I hope his family is ok? I said so in my initial post. The world continues spinning.

I still find it ironic that his supporters are now saying that being glad he is dead makes one a bad person; while they laughed loudly when he celebrated the deaths of thousands with funny sound effects.

Well, relying on everyone else "being the bigger person" is kind of their whole shtick, isn't it?
Rules and conventions are there to protect them not bind them, they act suddenly all indignant once somebody decides to play by their rules.

I think he was too angry. Bad for the heart. Stress and positive mindsets play a role in longevity. Never seen someone live into their 100s off of rage and hate.

One does wonder where all this concern for speaking ill of the dead was when Rush Limbaugh was laughing at people who died of AIDS.

A few could perhaps make it that long in spite of and not because of basking in hate and rage. To hang on because you're just too stubborn to die. I'm only 32, I already know or sense that I have a bad heart. Being happy, that just isn't always possible. Neither is having friends/relations and etc as most people think of it. I say screw all the supposed research that says its impossible to continue on against the odds. Hate and rage sometimes is where its really at for someone. It speaks to me more than thinking that everything is just fine in the world when that just isn't true. There is plenty of stuff to oppose and want to act against.
