Yes. That's not really relevant to what Arch said. We don't gloat over people's deaths here, however disreputable they may have been in life, because that not only violates site rules but reflects poorly on us as people.

Eh. It definitely reflects poorly on those who do, but I doubt that would stop most people here. Most comments here have attempted to go as far as they can within the limits of the rules. Not sure they care how it reflects on them, and why would they? You're only wary of another entity when it possesses equivalent power or prospects. The only thing that would stop them otherwise is something they're not in possession of to begin with.

Who is now the new Mr. Conservative? Has a new voice of the American Right emerged asides from Ben Shapiro or Mark Levin?

Throttle back. You can criticize the man's absolutely vile actions and political opinions without gloating over the fact he's dead. There's plenty of social media venues for that.

Why would you say something nice about a man who defended Abu Ghraib, spread misinformation about coronavirus, and called a small child a “dog?”

I'll obey forum rules and not gloat about the man's death, but there's no reason to act like his death absolves him from having been an awful person.

Yes.

I would recommend not trying to test us to see what the outcome might be.

That's fair, I'll probably mostly stay out of this thread.

Which has nothing to do with Limbaugh's passing and everything to do with taking potshots at Sundiata. Let's knock that off-topic flamebaiting off.

Arguably, at least in the US, the term conservative has largely become a meaningless word. I've added it to my list here of late... totally basically uniquely very awesome incredible unbelievable conservative.

So, i surmise you're looking for the new Mr. Meaningless.

If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

A collection of Rush Limbaugh's greatest hits, for those who may be reading this thread and are unfamiliar with him:
“Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it.”

“The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.”

“Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.” - said to a black woman caller on his show.

“[Black Americans] are 12 percent of the population. Who the hell cares?”

“They’re out there protesting what they actually wish would happen to them sometimes.” - on women protesting sexual assault

"What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex — what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute.""So Miss Fluke and the rest of you feminazis, here’s the deal. If we are going to pay for your contraceptives and thus pay for you to have sex, we want something. We want you to post the videos online so we can all watch.”

“Let the unskilled jobs that take absolutely no knowledge whatsoever to do — let stupid and unskilled Mexicans do that work.”

“You just gotta be who you are, and I think it’s time to get rid of this whole National Basketball Association. Call it the TBA, the Thug Basketball Association, and stop calling them teams. Call ’em gangs.”

“Holocaust? Ninety million Indians? Only four million left? They all have casinos — what’s to complain about?”

“When a gay person turns his back on you, it is anything but an insult; it’s an invitation.”

"A lot of young people are spending a lot of time on the World Wide Web. I came across a post last night at, of all places, [Gawker] ... is a ... Basically it's a militant homosexual site, entertainment. Not militant. It's a gay site."

"In this commercial he is exaggerating the effects of the disease. He is moving all around and shaking and it’s purely an act. This is the only time I’ve ever seen Michael J. Fox portray any of the symptoms of the disease he has." - on Michael J Fox's Parkinson's disease.

His death came at an interesting time, shortly after Trump leaving office. In my own memories I've always closely associated him with the Bush era, and that seems to have been the peak of his fame and notoriety. Trump arriving on the scene obviously completely shook up American conservative culture, which was still hanging on to the coattails so to speak of Bush conservatism, and a lot of the "old guard" just dissolved into irrelevance. It's definitely a changed world in 2021 versus 2007, and Limbaugh would never be able to be the voice for 2021 conservatism. It is kind of a poetic demise.

I can't imagine one single figure becoming the king of conservative media again. You could do that in the television/radio era. Nowadays online media is so distributed. The only exception would be Trump, but as the weeks go by it looks he might actually retire in silence and not start a media organization as I thought he would.

Tucker Carlson is probably closest now.

Other than that I wonder what the timeframe for being happy someone's left the mortal coil on NSG, pretty sure there's greater leniency for insulting historic a-holes.

I'd give it twenty years or so, lest one invite accusations of being a ghoul. Really, I think mirth at anyone's death is unbecoming. You can express stern disapproval without resorting to that.

He did have a family, though I suppose you probably think it's irresponsible of them to have not boycotted him and denied him anything that could resemble "love" if he didn't denounce his politics and statements and that they are indirectly responsible for all his actions.
