What will 2050 (and the years before it) look like NSG?

Postby Garkland » Wed Feb 17, 2021 7:14 am

Looking back on the past, 30 years ago was the year 1990.... 1990 was 30 years ago can't you believe it (going on 31 years now)? Now if you look at their predictions of the upcoming years, man they were way off (although kind of right I guess) Just look at the movie Back to the Future. Now got me thinking, what will the next 30 (technically 29, but 2021 ain't over yet) will look like. I made a paragraph of what I think 2050 would consist of and a list (it's not finished) of the upcoming years and what I think they would bring.

In the-year 2050, life will be vastly different than it is now. First of all, cryptocurrencies will be more widely used than the USD. The United States would also be surpassed by other nations like China, Russia, and some African nations. By 2050 they have found a cure for COVID 19 already and in the next couple years it will be completely eradicated. America has also switched to clean energy sources as Nuclear, solar turbines, and other sources are used for energy globally. Robots are commonplace in most homes, and at least 75% of homes have a Integillinet robots and A.I of sorts. Virtual Realty is also common and are able to switch from A.R to VR in a matter of seconds and the headsets look sleek and fashionable (since they look like glasses). By this time there are more electric cars than gasoline cars, more self driving than manual cars. Healthcare is now free in the US by this time, and serval humans have been to mars.

Late- to mid 2021 (like march to December) mass riots by Qaon and right-wing groups because of Trump not being president, also mask-wearing is not mandatory anymore

2022- Republican party either collapses or is completely changed. Democrats gain more seats, unemployment goes back to normal levels (also new two parties form the republican part which is formed the Trump Party of America, TPA and the Conservative party of America, CPA

2023- Jimmy carter dies

2024- the first astronaut on Mars, Kamela Harris wins election, cold war with China and Russia

2025- Moonbase is in the process of being built, Kamela Harris becomes President

2026- Kamela Harris is impeached on corruption charges

2027- Arrproval ratings for Harris drops

2028- Kamela Harris loses the election (if she has not resigned or got impeached yet) to the New GOP candidate ( probably called the Conservative party of America), third party wins at least 5 more seats in congress

2029- More climate change reform, possible skirmishes with China, and the USA,.

So NSG what do you think the next 30 years will bring?

Pretty similar to now. If you took a person from 1950 and put them in a modern city, they wouldn't notice much different. Things will look a little more futuristic. If you're looking for some kind of utopian shit, you're gonna be disappointed. If you're expecting The Day After Tomorrow, I think you'll be relieved.

Based on current climate trends, I think the Day after tomorrow is much more likely than a utopia. They've been warning about this for years but everyone wanted to pretend it wasn't real.

If we don't turn around what we are doing right now, that is the future. But please, go stick your head in the ground some more, I'm sure this time it'll make things better somehow.

If things go literally the best way possible it looks little different from today except with better technology.

In the worst case there's large scale climate collapse and we're probably already fighting the water wars.

So what do you think then? You think we're gonna totally change our society over to green energy? Because if you think we're gonna just keep doing what we're doing and be okay, you're wrong. And I'm not a doomer. A doomer thinks we are definitely fucked, I just think it's a 60% likelihood.

But with the collapse of the republican party as we know it (or the evolution and reformation of the current GOP) both parties may adopt a policy of climate change and won't be a policy unique to the left. I believe that even though it's late to start working on climate change, we can still stop further damage. I mean everybody thought the world was gonna end in the year 2000 from Y2K. So I believe we will survive.

I read a fun article just a month or two ago that laid out a compelling case that Phoenix, and much of Maricopa county, will likely be uninhabitable to humans by 2050 because the average temperature will be well over 100 when factoring in humidity for half the year.

Some really rough predictions here. I have no doubt some of them will be wrong, but this is a broad overview.

Early to mid 2020s: COVID-19 either disappears or becomes peripheral. The world economy begins to somewhat recover, but some countries recover more than others. Rotting infrastructure and a declining economy, combined with the civil unrest we're seeing causes Russia to collapse.

Late 2020s: If a war between the US and China happens it's probably going to start here. China will lose to the US and go into decline. Tibet and East Turkestan will become independent countries.

Early 2030s: War will break out between Turkey and Iran, Turkey will win and become the dominant power in the Middle East. The world economy might completely recover from COVID.

Mid to late 2030s: Political and religious division in the US will decrease as the US becomes overwhelmingly left-leaning and becomes a mostly-atheist country.

Early to mid 2040s: India's economy passes the US, India soon becomes the regional power of Southern Asia.

Late 2040s and early 2050s: Tensions rise between India and the US as India begins to displace the US in the Pacific. Too early to say who will come out on top in the end.

I think most of this is accurate with the exception of Harris getting impeached and losing re-election.

True, I doubt there would be a majority who would want to impeach her if the GOP breaks up.

I can see this happening although the mid to late 2030's basically already happened (well the left-leaning part at least) I mean sure the US is more religious than other nations but that's because for many in America their god is a god that brings money and the American Dream. As the GOP slowly (or quickly) collapses America will be (at least for a couple of years) a left-leaning nation (at least in theory) in a couple of years.

China will have surpassed the US in total GDP but NATO will still be ahead. Russia will be even more economically irrelevant, while Africa will be fast growing but not a big player yet. Politics will probably be more populist but nothing super radical - US probably has single payer healthcare though. Likely less globalisation overall. Climate change means there's yet more extreme weather, coastal cities are probabyl working on seawalls.

Technically speaking, probably lots of medical innovation from gene therapy and protein folding - first enhanced designer babies might have been born. Warfare will have been revolutionized by widespread deployment of laser weapons, autonomous drone swarms and hypersonic weapons. AI software has automated yet more jobs. Flying cars will be widespread in urban areas in the form of electric rideshare passenger drones. Renewables will have clearly beaten fossil fuels in terms of cost for two decades and counting - break-even fusion will be cracked but not yet widespread. 3D printing enables a lot more stuff to be produced locally, and has rendered gun control laws obsolete.

Space wise, Starship and successors will have dropped launch costs down to tens of dollars a kilo - there's likely a big space startup bubble in the late 2020s that pops after people realizes most things are still better done on Earth. Space tourism and orbital manufacturing are things, maybe early attempts at space solar and mining, we've landed on Mars but don't have a major permanent presence.

The difference is we've been too slow with climate change and are still going too slow. Both parties are owned by corporate America which spent years covering up climate change and they won't do anything about it without a fight, so we have a chance to stop it, but right now isn't the time to say "guys we'll be fine." We might be fine. We may also not be fine. Only time will tell.

Why would China lose to the US? The US couldn't win the war in Afghanistan, how do we win in a mountainous country of 1 billion people which has an actual army and nuclear bombs?

I think like a cold war rather than actual combat, which I say skirmishes at worst but nothing too major. Think USSR v.s USA.

Well, from what I've got so far, we'll be having full-blown brain-computer interface in the 2040s and artificial general intelligence in the 2060s.

It also depends on when will general purpose quantum computing will reach commercial level, which will significantly accelerate AI development (though even non-general purpose quantum computers will still create massive impacts on the sector).

I would also say that relative immortality will also be achieved by 2050 (that is, longevity technology will allow you to live 20 years longer for example, buying enough time for technology to advance and extend your life span, and extend it again, until we don't age anymore).
