They can cast a tie-breaking vote, but does that actually come up very often? I wouldn't have thought so.

Not very, no. Mike Pence had to break a tie when Betsy DeVos was up for confirmation as Secretary of Education plus another 12 times. Kamala Harris has cast a two such votes already. Joe Biden cast none.

pro gamer tip: most of the time, not committing crimes will keep you from going to jail

barely related, but it kind of reminds me of this thing i saw about a man who was on trial for weed-related offenses and started smoking in the courtroom, which sounds really dumb but now that i look at an article about it it was actually in protest (civil disobedience? imagine knowing what terms mean) regarding legalization and not just a Florida Man tier move.

EDIT: So including child tax credit is wrong if i'm doing an income to income comparison. That would be for a bill vs no bill comparison. Taking that out.

So I'm looking at the proposal from the senate regarding the phaseouts being reset from 75k-100k to 75k-80k, and double that for married filing jointly.

WOW

Talk about making the 1950s great again.

For a single person with no kids, the effect of making 80k instead of 75k in wages is as follows (5k earnings):

$1,100 in income tax
$382.50 in FICA
$250.00 in state tax (assuming 5% in their bracket, which is about average for the states in this income range)
$1400 in foregone stimulus

Total effect: $3,132.50, or 62.65% effective tax rate

For a single person with one child, it's as follows:

$1,100 in income tax
$382.50 in FICA
$250.00 in state tax (average)
$2800 in foregone stimulus

Total effect: $4,532.50, or 90.65% effective tax rate

For a married couple, two kids, nuclear family, going from 150,000 to 160,000:

$2,200 in income tax
$765 in FICA
$500 in state tax
$5600 in foregone stimulus

Total effect: $9,065, or still a 90.65% effective tax rate

(This makes sense when you consider it's just doubling everything from the example above)

For a married couple with three kids, same 150 to 160:

$2200 in income tax
$765 in FICA
$500 in state tax
$7000 in foregone stimulus

Total effect: $10,465, or 104.65% effective rate

I don't support killing innocent persons, women and children. But I don't see any persons condemning the persons who place women and children on target sites, so their enemies will not or might not attack their camps, a common practice by many persons.

I don't know or I am not sure who made the call, I wonder if the call stating their were women and children at the site, was deliberate in hopes Biden would call of any attacks on their camps.

The comments by a poster and yourself - If Democrat President Bill Clinton had gone through his plan to kill Bin Laden, a lot more people would be alive today is a very interesting comment to discuss and share our views and opinions on this issue.

Idaho State Rep. Charlie Shepherd (R) votes against using federal funds for early education, because it "makes it easier for mothers to come out of the home'

The bill failed, 36-34

he later apologized.
"Yesterday while debating a bill in front of this body, I attempted to compliment mothers of this state for being the best people at early childhood development. My intent was to compliment mothers in every way possible. I stand before you now to admit that I failed miserably. After hearing my remarks played back, I recognize how my remarks sounded derogatory or offensive and even sexist towards the mothers of this state. In no way, I in no way meant to insult, in no way meant to insinuate that mothers that work outside the home were at any fault in any way. I in no way think to fathers, the father has any less responsibility, or should play any less role than the mother in raising their children. Single working mothers are the strongest and most courageous people that I know. I witnessed the extraordinary abilities of professional mothers, every day. Just like the mothers in this body. I have the utmost respect and admiration for every one of them and the mothers in this state. Yesterday, I also made a statement that was narrow-minded and idealistic about how to solve the problem of childcare in our state. I have learned the hard way that misguided statements do not help solve anything. I sincerely apologize to any and all that I have offended and I will work hard to write any wrongs that I have done. I thank the body for yielding me this time, Mr. Speaker, I yield back."
