You're abusing this phrase. Correlation doesn't equal causation, but it also doesn't imply non-relatedness.

For example, countries with more trees tend to have more births. This is because having more births and having more trees are both associated with having a larger country in general. In this case, you don't have to be genius to deduce that there's a link between increased government spending and fewer deaths during the pandemic. That being, of course, increased capacity in government welfare programs and more money for vaccine rollouts, both of which very obviously prevent people from dying.

Vaccine rollouts aren't affected by stimulus checks though. I find it far more likely that the downward trend in deaths is caused by the vaccine, and people wearing masks. And welfare programs won't prevent people dying from covid. Anyone can claim two things are related, doesn't mean they actually are.

You may be surprised to learn this, but the stimulus package isn't meant to prevent people from dying of covid. It's meant to stimulate the economy. Of course, a key element of a functioning economy is having alive people to participate in it.
