If apply a negative pressure to disincentivize fossil fuel use, you are necessitating the creation of greener energy sources to pick up the slack of your grid, so people don't go without power. If you apply a positive pressure and just invest in green tech without trying to reduce fossil fuel use, you're not forcing out the pre-existing fossil fuel network, so emissions don't go down. At best you're making them redundant but redundancy doesn't necessarily mean they'll go away.

Sure, I can see why. Though I'm more worried about what the big one will do to other infrastructure. Fukashima, while disastrous, was also nothing compared to the actual earthquake and tsunami.

This. The actual nuclear incident at Fukushima can be demonstrably linked to one death, maybe. The evacuation from the area, which in retrospect was unnecessary in most cases, killed far more, at a few dozen. But the disaster itself killed thousands, and the numbers that a major California earthquake would kill through damage to aging, unmaintained infrastructure is horrific. Updating backbone infrastructure is a far better sink for money than trying to renovate or phase out nuclear plants that are already earthquake-compliant and are incredibly unlikely to kill anybody, even in a disaster.

Fun fact there was a nuclear powerplant even closer to the epicentre of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake than Fukushima was. It was properly sited and protected from tsunamis and earthquakes. It survived practically undamaged.

Yes but if you solely focus on the green technology aspect, what ends up happening is it gets used in addition to the fossil fuels rather than instead of the fossil fuels. It's more economically advantageous to expand than to replace.

First of all, you're jumping too far ahead. A kid has just crossed the border, surely the first step would be to get them food, shelter, and a medical check-up? That means you have to take them somewhere to get that sorted. So where would you take them?

You may make an effort to find their parents. That means you'll have to find someone who speaks their language, and interview the child. Where will the child stay while you're starting the investigation?

A daycare center may be nice (is it suitable for a 14-year old?), but they can't sleep there. What about schooling? How long would you keep the child in a daycare center while you were searching for their parents?

What if the parents aren't found?

The day care center would also have food, snacks, doctors, a place to sleep.

There would be age appropriate entertainment there too.

Infact this daycare would be more of a resort/hotel sort of thing.

Right now this would be easy, funding for the unused hotels and resorts beacuse lack of tourism from covid.
There would be also online schooling/local schooling too.

If parents are not found, we may have to make a hard choice of puting them up for adoption either in the states or there former contury of residents.

I think a two month investigation would be enough time for each parent case. After that we would have too put them up for adoption.

The problem with California; there isn’t the “standard” quake. There have been the typical rumbler; fault slips (There is actually a hike you can do to see the effects of a slip quake. An old barn where there was a window used to toss out horse manure. A quake happened and the window and the poop pile shifted 18 feet from each other. One of the weirdest ones I witnessed was a sinewave quake (forget the name. The land moves in a sinewave motion. You felt like you were on a boat.

Add in the legacy of three mile and Chernobyl and you have a hard sale for the people.

I will add to my original post. I stated, I once saw an interview on a Spanish News Channel where they interviewed a Central American Lady, she said they don't care if they send their kids illegally to the USA by themselves, like on the roof of that famous train. So lets send the kids back to their nations of origin with their parents where they belong and close the camps and cages of kids and adults and problem solved. Care about your kids.
