Because automation is ultimately how we escape having to slave for the Man 40 hours a week in order to survive.

We just have to get rid of this attitude that people don't deserve to survive if they don't slave for the Man for 40 hours a week.

Unfortunately what happens instead is jobs get automated and then people become obsolete and get left to die.

and i don't think that poorly of people

i mean, if automation is as dire an event as predicted, a lot of us are going to be superfluous, and if you're a moneygrubbing dick, why would you want bums to scrounge up the money that should be yours to begin with?

As Texas deep freeze subsides, some households now face electricity bills as high as $10,000

So, unless I misunderstood something, we actually live in a terrible society?

Seems like it. There is absolutely no excuse for charging people that much for electricity after a major disaster like this and some of them have no means to pay.

And during a pandemic and economic crisis too, on top of all of that. I'm extremely disappointed.

That is not what the article said at all. Rather they where criticizing the methodology they claim is taught to children and came up with a different one to help ensure evaluate information on the web.
This is the methodology they suggest be used for evaluating
1. Stop.
2. Investigate the source.
3. Find better coverage.
4. Trace claims, quotes and media to the original context.

Poodles have woolly fur. It was indoor out of the wind, and would have blankets and stuff. Even assuming the security guard didn't allow it to snuggle up. It was still having a much easier time than any wild animal. First world problems ...

Apparently failure of gas supply to generators was the main cause of Texas blackouts. So much for "more gas means less blackouts".

Like we needed anymore evidence. Poor Snowflake though, that's kind of sad.

Cruz took his two kids on a holiday, which would be a great thing if he wasn't one of the Senators from Texas. I frankly don't see much wrong with it, even so.

He left the dog behind? He left the dog behind with someone to mind it? This is not a story.

The fact that the family could not take their pet with them does however suggest it was not as "pre-planned" as Cruz claims.
