Because they know they can't win fair elections. They only won the popular vote once since 1992, and it was after 9/11 when many "rallied to the flag" after the terrible shock.

They also are in the minority in nearly all topics - a (moderate to large) majority supports medicare for all (or at very least a "public option"), taxing the rich/corporations for improved social welfare and better infrastructures, more environmental protection, higher minimal wage, stricter gun control, women and LGBT rights, BLM, ...

Our democracy isn't "free" or "fair" to begin with.

Hence why they are passing voter suppression laws because they know they can only win by cheating. I think it will backfire though. The trends in Georgia don't favor Republicans. Its likely at the point Virginia was in 2008.

Oh, that's true, for many reasons. But even within the restricted view of "free and fair elections" that exists in bourgeois democracy, the GOP can't win them.

So why don't you explain what's wrong with it, using actual evidence to support your points.

Or you can just drop emotive statements as a vague and desperate attempt at thought termination. Your choice.

Capitol on lockdown after vehicle rammed into barricade, injuring 2, in addition to other unconfirmed reports

The US Capitol in Washington DC was placed on lockdown on Friday, with staff told to “seek cover” amid reports of an “external security threat”.

News organisations reported emergency vehicles at the scene with one person at least seen on a stretcher. A DC fire spokesperson told media they were responding to a reported shooting. In a statement on Twitter, US Capitol police said officers were “responding to the North Barricade vehicle access point along Constitution Avenue for reports someone rammed a vehicle into two USCP officers. A suspect is in custody. Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital”.

In an update, one of the injuries wasn’t the ramming-the officer was stabbed

Of course not.

Also, there's no longer an ongoing threat at the Capitol and the attack probably isn't related to terrorism.
