New Hampshire Republicans are not subtle

Republicans in New Hampshire have introduced a spate of bills looking to make it harder — if not impossible — for college students to vote in the state, an effort to strip Democrats of an important bloc of supporters ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

One bill being considered in the GOP-controlled state House would ban students from using their dorm address to register to vote. A second bill would remove student IDs from the list of acceptable forms of identification needed to cast a ballot.
New Hampshire doesn't have much of a minority vote to suppress. The state is 93 percent white, according to the Census Bureau.

But the state does have the largest number of college students per capita, with college students making up 11 percent of the state population, according to American School & University, a trade publication for education professionals. And college students overwhelmingly vote Democratic, with 65 percent of voters between the ages of 18 and 24 choosing Biden over Trump in 2020, according to national exit poll data.

New Hampshire will be a critical state for Republicans in the 2022 midterms, when they will seek to win back control of the Senate.

Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan is up for reelection this year. She is one of just four Democrats up for reelection in the 2022 class of senators whose race is currently considered competitive, and thus Republicans will target the seat for a pick-up.

I do think that political related crimes should bar one from public office.
Accepting bribes, fraud, charges of corruption. That sort of thing.

That's how we do it here. In general convicts don't lose the right to vote and be candidate, but they do (as an additional penalty the judge can decide) for crimes related to elections (such as electoral fraud attempt) or crimes while in office.

Overall I think it's good when the justice system is independent and fair enough - but we have to be very careful, as you can see in Brazil with Lula's being barred from being candidate by a very partial judge Moro.

I posted a video link from CSPAN2 of Democrats like Nancy Pelosi, President Obama, Hillary Clinton, Barbara Boxer, Stefany Tubbs Jones and other Democrats objecting to the electoral college votes against Republican President Trump, while claiming Republican vote fraud, I posted a video link of Democrats objecting to the electoral college votes against Republican George W Bush, while claiming Republican vote fraud, Saying the same exact and or similar words Republicans used to object to the electoral college votes for Biden.

There are three very different situations and claim.

Democrats protested against Trump election in 2016, not claiming there was widespread fraud, but that Trump badly lost the popular vote, and was unfit to be President (which was actually the justification for the existence of the Electoral College, preventing unfit people from voting). So either you (like most leftists) oppose the Electoral College system and it was fair to oppose Trump because he did lose the popular vote. Or you support the Electoral College as a "firewall" to prevent unfit president, and then Trump should have been blocked.

Democrats protested against GW Bush election in 2000 because the margin of victory was very, very, very thin (about 500 votes) and there were very precise evidence of fraud (like the infamous "butterfly ballot").

And in neither of those cases they threatened to hang people, assaulted the Capitol nor killed anyone, despite having very valid reasons to be upset.

Republicans protested against Biden election in 2020 without the slightest shred of evidence, despite Biden overwhelmingly winning the popular vote, and requiring about 40 000 votes to be flipped to undo his victory (about 100x as much than in 2000).

If you consider those situations to be equivalent, it's like considering that a mosquito bite and a black widow bite are equivalent because they are bites.

DOJ asks for more time to make decision on turning over Trump taxes

ustice Department (DOJ) lawyers have reportedly requested additional time to determine their response to House Democrats’ request for former President Trump’s tax returns.

CNN reported that lawyers for the department, along with attorneys representing the House Ways and Means Committee, said in a joint filing Wednesday that "they have had communications, and anticipate further communications, that may inform Defendants' position in this case."

The Justice Department lawyers, who represent the Treasury Department in this matter, asked the judge for an additional month to make a decision on whether to release the tax returns, according to CNN. The DOJ lawyers earlier this month had requested additional time, citing the change in leadership with the new administration.

The lawyers are set to update the judge again at the end of April.

DOJ lawyers said earlier this month that they would not object to a move by Washington, D.C., federal district Judge Trevor McFadden to extend his order through April 2 that requires the Treasury to give Trump’s personal lawyers 72-hours notice before providing the former president’s tax returns to the House Ways and Means Committee.

However, lawyers for the House committee said that any additional time granted to the administration to make its decision on the tax returns “should be limited, given how long the Committee’s request has been stymied.”

Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure. -- 26 USC 1603(f)(1)
