Kosovo Establishes Ties with Israel

Postby Insaanistan » Tue Feb 02, 2021 7:12 am

Kosovo and Israel have agreed to recognize each other and establish relations over Zoom. This decision is something that both Turkey and Serbia agree is terrible (Kebab and Remove Kebab agree on something!)

This wasn’t really brokered by the US, and was obviously just both nations wanting recognition.
Kosovars aren’t gonna be too happy about this.
There is also another possible negative effect: and even sharper rise in Kosovars joining terrorist groups.
Kosovo is known as the IS’s hotspot in Europe. While there are reports of a significant number of these people not realizing that the groups they were joining were jihadis groups, many knew exactly what they were doing. The recognition of Israel will almost certainly lead to the radicalization of many Kosovars, further ruining the Muslim-majority nation’s image. Protests are already ongoing in the country over lockdowns, talks with Serbia, and vaccine deliveries.

The EU has urged Kosovo to rethink this incredibly controversial move.

In any case, most EU nations recognize Kosovo as independent.

No, what the EU is opposed to is the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, not Kosovo recognizing Israel.

The BBC link goes a bit into the fact so many Kosovars join terrorists groups.

Yeah but the EU per se cannot, as recognition by the EU requires unanimity of the members.

The point would be the as the EU cannot recognise Kosovo as an independent country it cannot actually criticise or applaud Kosovo exercising any of the prerogatives of an independent country.

Which is true. Yet, it never says that Kosovars are more likely to join terrorist groups because of the recognition of Israel. Hence, I'm asking source for that claim.

Oh, that specifically was my own speculation based on the fact IS would have a new point to raise to encourage terrorism in Kosovo. In the link I just added, it talks about how many Kosovor and Albanian terrorists planned terrorist attacks on their home countries, too.

The EU has a number of ways of engaging with governments it does not recognize. Urging them to do anything does not imply recognition. They can still be referred as "de facto authorities" or similar terms, for example.

The really positive news is that Kosovo and Israel relations are improving. On the other hand, I wish bilateral relations to be established under the roof of the united yugoslavia.

So is Israel gonna recognize the west Bank as a sovereign state yet or is it all a hypocritical one way street with them? Seems like they wanna have their cake and eat it too.

Kosovo and Israel are both countries and they both aren't recognized by plenty of other countries in the world, adding to the collective number of countries that recognize each other is a sensible and normal thing to do. Especially in the context of much of the Sunni World recognizing Israel against the common threat of the Iranian threat, I am not surprised by another Sunni majority nation joining the bandwagon of warming relations to Israel.

I don't see how it is hypocritical to recognize one state and not another. Most if not all countries do it.

I hate all those countries, but one major difference is how they came to be. Israel was not a centuries long empire that secularists then underwent “religious” revolution. It was not half of a peninsula that was forced under Communism and then survived a war over dominance of said peninsula. It was not an ethnically distinct state that suffered under Soviet rule and then won independence in the USSR’s collapse. It’s closest to the formation of Saudi Arabia: a nation (I said nation, not country) in the Middle East, founded by the broken promise to the Arabs.

What makes a centuries long empire a more legitimate state? What exactly is your basis for a legitimate state?

Well for starters, one that wasn’t plopped down by a colonial power partially due to their own anti-Semitism on someone else’s land.

You didn't answer my question. And please tell me how most countries whose boundaries were the result of brutal decades or centuries of conquest are more legitimate. Also wasn't most of the Middle East countries boundaries arbitrarily determined by withdraw of the colonial powers in the Middle East.

If it was british land, then what do you mean someone else's land?

I’m not seeing a coherent argument here. What makes Israel so uniquely different that it has to be unrecognized? Perhaps you own religious convictions are getting in the way?

Do you hate countries or do you disgust the politics of countries you do not like ? I wonder if the mindset who doesn't want to know Israel wants to know science? or are they trying to fill their own pockets for the sake of political Islam ?
