In Italy generally it's an ambulance crew AND a police three-man team intervening in these cases. Plus social workers or a magistrate for juveniles in the case minors are involved.

Oh. I assert that it would have been better to send an ambulance. Suicidal people are presumed to be mentally ill, even if they also make threats against someone else. The only way police are more appropriate is if the person is known to be armed.
