Because I don't know about you Lumen, but if owning another person as property because their skin color (Jefferson and Washington) is what you believe to make them inferior than you isn't racism, then I don't know what is.

I don't deny slavery is wrong but to say we cannot have something named for them because they did something considered awful today is a bit ludicrous. if we are going to adopt such a standard you'd soon have few historical figures you could name anything for.

I don't see why the national capital shouldnt be named for the first president of the United States and who was literally the only person who had the respect and reverence he had. There was no one else who could have led the country as effectively or been able to hold it together during its early years.
