If people want it renamed, fine, if they don't, fine.
We need to be teaching children about the reality of the United State's history, and that should come before any artificial changes are made. I was taught that the pilgrims and the Wampanoag were friends, and genuinely believed it because that's what I was told until my Freshman year History teacher had us read some primary sources telling us otherwise. While we can't just teach 8 year olds about genocide as they're so young, we can't give them any more false perceptions about our history.
When exactly did you attended elementary and middle school?

Please. While some people do engage in that, the main focus is trying to not have places named after racists.
Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln would be racists by today's standards. To say we can't have something named for them because they held beliefs or did things we find objectionable today is ludicrous. It is simply not fair to apply modern standards to the past. By that standard you have to rename just about every place named for a person including Washington DC.

Racism refers to "prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized". If they fit that definition, they were racist. The meaning of racism has never changed, it has just become less accepted by society.

Why don’t you guys accept my proposal then? If Greek letters are “too white” there is always......Ge’ez. Now it can not be racist and everyone gets to learn some Ethiopian culture. Isn’t that acceptable?

This can permanently settle this issue. Public schools should never be named after humans.
I'd prefer not, there are some people and events worth havinf thigs named after and all public buildings would look like they're owned by fraternities.
I'd much rather have Greek letters than racist scumbags, though

Politicizing things isn't bad in itself.

Yes according to you everyone from throughout history who held racist beliefs by today's standards should not have something named for them be changed and their memorials bulldozed. Lets not forget you want Mount Rushmore destroyed.
Let's rename Washington DC and Jefferson City too.

Racism isn't new. just because it was the norm doesn't mean they weren't racist.
Because I don't know about you Lumen, but if owning another person as property because their skin color (Jefferson and Washington) is what you believe to make them inferior than you isn't racism, then I don't know what is.
