Regarding the Big Tech/Silicon Valley benefits system

It doesn’t really work in terms of profits, it shouldn’t be replicated in other sectors

The Google approach should be copied in all other industries that can afford it. It attracts top talent and retains them.

Isn't this the mill around auto company necks, that their pension benefits were so generous that now, when things are tighter, it's a huge cost to them. That is if you give too much away when you're highly profitable can come back to bite you when everything is leaner and costs need squeezing.

Anyway, better to be friends with people at places like Google and FB, and get a bunch of free stuff anyway.

They have family pass cards. When I visited, my brother allowed me to use the facilities. I had a few memorable runs on the free arcade machines. There was also this excellent chowder soup with vegetables.

Though now due to COVID, the benefits are temporarily unavailable due to the work from home situation.

In government jobs? Hell no. I don’t want a tax hike so some statist can enjoy the benefits of working at a profitable company.

If other industries have the money to do so, then they can implement these benefits if they want to, but that’s up to whoever is running it.
