This is absurd. Defense of property is never itself a justifiable defense for homicide under US law. Lethal self defense is not legally predicated on defense of property. Defense of property is merely incidental to defense of self.

Me, myself, I'm more "that's bad trouble, I'm out of here" and never have to defend myself on my own property. Kinda helps that I have mostly rented property and didn't have a lot of nice stuff. Let alone operated a business.

Bottom line, is the Korean shop-keepers, all their employees and family, could easily have escaped, except that some hardasses wanted to defend their property. If any lives were put at risk, it was for the sake of property.

There's no reason to retreat from a place you've a right to be.

Indeed. Even if you take the stance of "human life is more important", in this case retreating only endangers one's life.

For what it's worth though, I can also say that the bystanders who attacked Rittenhouse after the initial shooting may also have been justified in acting, considering they might have believed he had killed someone randomly. An overall sad situation.

Yep. He fake surrendered, then when Rittenhouse lowered his rifle, charged in again and tried to point his gun at Rittenhouse’s head.

He’s lucky he’s not dead. Rittenhouse clearly shot exactly where he was looking (at the gun) and the motion resulted in the bullet striking his arm. If he had been looking at Grosskreutz’s face he’d be dead.

And if he had been moving a hair faster, and the bullet was an inch to the right, he might have gotten his arm amputated.

And I don’t mean “later at the hospital” when I say that.
