I'm not sure what you're trying to refer to here. I'm not very familiar with Tom Clancy's works.

Tom Clancy was an insanely popular author of techno-thrillers in the 1990s (who also sort of predicted 9/11) and his idealized (if conservative) version of America is somewhat close of what you believe your ideal america to be.

It's also close to the america of movies such as "Air Force One" or various Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay's transformers etc. The cultural sucessor to Eagleland. The opposite to Donald Trump's ugly Murica, CSA etc.

I'm always a fan of alt-history but that's a little, uh, out there.

It's less about the plausibility of the scenarios (despite he was pretty good at making them plausible in his earlier books) than the idea and self-picture of america he transmitted through it. Which is entirely accurate with how well intentioned moderately liberal to conservative americans did saw themself and the US role in the world. The psychology was 100% on spot.

It was exactly that kind of self idea upon which the Bush government could justify the War on Terror until it started to fade out in the 2010s. That was the world those boomers (and soemtimes gen-xers) believed in, and collapsed. So they turned to Trump, QAnon etc.
