Yup. New England is unique in that its rural areas except for northern Maine tend to be blue. I’d assume that it is because it still votes as if the religious culture war was still going on and that NE is fairly secular.

The urban-rural divide is very strong in many areas. You just need to drive for 5 miles in one direction from a confusing mixed suburb to a very blue or very red area.

Even northern Maine is kinda more libertarian-esque.

Yup. Social conservatism largely does not exist in NE. If NE is a country then maybe its politics will be similar to that of Germanic Europe with one major social democratic party and one liberal (in European sense) party. Wait. That’s already happening and these parties are known as local Democrats and local Republicans lol.

I mean, if I were Ron, I'd take a break from Facebook very happily. I only have one because of family obligations and I hate it.

...Somewhat nostalgic to even hear anything from him at all.

Looking at his page it seems he had a video stating the putsch was instigated by the Left, that this was a Deep State false flag as evidenced by the Capitol Police helping the protestors.

I'd guess that was a reason.

Indeed. It was an extremly insecure website.

So far the biggest security leak seems that all pictures and videos uploaded on parler weren't autopurged from their exif data which is an extreme security issue from parlers side itself.

Theres also talk that becoming a verified user on Parler required uploading an Driver ID or so. I am not sure if the crawlers were able to access this data somehow. The hacker had in any case access to higher privilege functions in the network. Ontop of that parlers internal structure and setup seem to have been rather... shady.

Moreover ethnats in US don’t have much computing capabilities. Very few of the major ethnat tools in US are actually owned by ethnats.

There have been attempts to build their own platforms, most of them werent exactly sucessfull and most of them disappeared again.

Remember when Ron Paul was the quintessential example of a detached from reality politician people made fun of?

Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Well, most platforms ethnats use are actually built by libertarians many of whom are not actually European.

I can't, it's how we plan family events. They haven't been in person lately but if I skip out I get such an earful.

From what I gathered their attitude towards Parler and it's lack of sophistication appears to be negative.

It is not surprising. Tech nerds are relatively unlikely to support ethnats in any society since the former are generally educated nerds while the latter are generally uneducated jocks. The former simply tend to see the latter as potential threats.

Theres some very savvy technerds amongst the far-right. But they aren't the ones running the show on platforms like Parler. Which is predominantly trumpist.

Altough recently I'd say the barriers between the different groups and factions have been dissolved in the past weeks and months. During the Capitol storm and #StopTheSteal they all have become, temporarily, one big happy family.

PS: Feels good that this is an independent australian website.

Of course there are but that demographic is small. I’m sufficiently familiar with the far-right to know that techies are underrepresented.

Yup. The sites usually associated with the far-right are usually not actually run by far-rightists. Instead they are really just sites with less censorship. Hence the membership is almost exclusively far right as a result.

or 2008

i would love to be basking in the warm afterglow of an obama presidency again, coupled with a republican electoral and reputational collapse, and i'm sure as fuck the gop at this point does too

at the very least, my health would still be golden, and so would those of hundreds of thousands

How would it make your health different?

Like how exactly is the reign of President Trump affecting your health personally negatively?

just think of the hundreds of thousands who wouldn't have been dead of this fucking pandemic due to trump basically giving up

how many of them used to log on to ns to do whatever, living out their lives online and off, before those twin catastrophes fucked one another? how many would've been deranged by trump's lies and so forgot or forbade themselves from protecting their own, infected others, and either died or now live crippled lives?

ah death, so spiritually taxing
