They can declare war (as Germany did) but until they physically attack us, we have no right to attack them.

The current attacks in the Middle East are also not justified because they are not attacking the USA. I am curious if Biden will be another murderer as Bush (both of them), Clinton, Reagan, Obama, and Trump have been or will Biden be better and be a man of peace that only attacks with proper cause (being attacked first).

I hope Biden gets us out of NATO as well. We need a strong border defense but it is time to bring the troops home and reduce the size of the military. Are democrats the party of peace or not??

It's a touchy subject for me now, because I lost TWO nations in that thread. :(

I don't think we should call the perp "anti 5G" because the building he seems to have targeted was AT&T and there was a link to that specific company through the man's father. It's probably fair to say he was influenced by an emerging conspiracy cult, anti-internet I would say, of which the anti-5G folks are forward and visible, not least because they still use the internet itself. They're probably reacting in particular to new rollout because they feel the internet has "gone far enough" and should stop permeating further into everyone's lives. Mind control, deliberate infection (or vaccination!) etc are all crazy, but maybe there's a nub of truth there. People feel the internet has influenced or "controlled" their whole world and all non-cultists, and it feels to them like their own bodies are the last line of defense. Give me liberty, at least in my own mind, or give me two weeks in prison for trying to set fire to a telephone pole!

Ranting aside, there is a very clear distinction between the motorhome bomber, and the regular terrorist. Clearly avoiding killing people, is way out of character for terrorism, and I'm sure it's part of the message. "Stop Skynet, but never kill people. Not even those who work for skynet are guilty, because they're people too". And robots? Maybe they can be liberated and join the people. Or maybe they're too hard-wired, we'll have to see.

If I'm right, we may see so much of this "terrorism" in the future, that it would serve us to coin a new name for it. Finally I'll point out that the guy's target wasn't all that comparable to a power substation, which one could also bomb without immediate casualties. It's remotely possible that taking out phones and internet could lead to a death, but certainly it will cost a lot of people money and really inconvenience them. Taking out power to a suburb is almost certain to kill some people.

Costing people money and really inconveniencing them, is a crime, and obviously destroying a bunch of shop fronts is a crime. But I am rather insistent that we not use "terrorism" to describe violent protests, though they be crimes or not, which don't pose a serious risk to life or risk of injury. This one did, but I'm speaking more generally.

Some of Greenpeace's protests succeed in delaying a ship loading and making its port window, or destroy small but critical parts of a company's equipment, but are carefully planned not to risk lives. Even the more militant Sea Shepherd, tried to make whaling uneconomical without risking lives, until the Ady Gil incident when I ceased supporting them at all. The motivation is different, and the method of avoiding casualties instead of trying for them, follows from that. If "destructive protest" with this focus on costing government or businesses money, becomes more prevalent in the future, it needs to be treated differently (in prevention, management, and punishment) than old style terrorism.

I feel like it is not that hard to say "truck bomb attacks in major cities are terrorist acts" but you do you ig

Only people can feel terror, and neither corporations nor government, are people.

and what are corporations and governments comprised of?

Morons who think statistics and profits are the way the world works.

And as we all have seen morons do not fear anything until the consequences of the actions they take come door knocking.

No matter. After the 6th, with DC getting a massive amount of national guards, with airports refusing to let people bring guns to DC, among other strict measures, I'm pretty confident the 20th will be fine. There are few plans that I know of. The 6th was advertised by Trump and dipshit media names like Charlie Kirk, Tomi Lahren, and congresspeople like Andy Biggs and Gosar of AZ. We're not seeing any public, headline-grabbing stunts for the 20th as of yet.

In other words, I expect protests in some state capitols, but very little violence. The anger and tension and absurd bitterness on the part of 25-35% of the populace is still there, but they are less organized and less inclined to act for the time being.

Well, they would be absolutely stupid if they were to be violent, against the National Guard, whom are well-equipped and trained. I think we should be worried of the coming months given some of them aren't going to sit quietly. But regardless, I won't be near those places anyway.

Some random person isn't a country. If the actual government of Afghanistan declared actual war on the US, then the US would be perfectly justified in attacking them.

We don't have to send private ships to international waters. Also, if they attack a US navy ship, then we have the right to attack them. If they attack a private ship in international waters it is a bit trickier. Perhaps we could just attack five or ten of their ships and then call it even with no need for war. We will even tell them ahead of time that it is a tit-for-tat attack and after we attack X number of ships, we will be even. If they attack another private ship, we will attack 5-10 of their ships again. We will also warn them that if they attack a military ship, it is justification for war.

The constitution says no, but I wouldn't rule out Rudy talking his way into an Amendment being passed to change it just this once.

Your idea makes it too easy to go to war. There is a difference between a few words and actual action. Perhaps a minister got excited and made a declaration of war but while the govt. was preparing to attack, they realized it would be a bad idea.

Also, did the govt. of Iraq or Afghanistan make an official declaration of war against the USA? How about Libya, Syria, or Yemen? We attacked people in those countries and used the tired 'war on terrorism' argument.

One could easily argue that Americans are also terrorists. How do you think Iraqis felt about being attacked? How about people in Serbia (including Chinese people killed at the US embassy there)? There is a reason Americans are so hated around the world and it is for more than just the lousy pop music, gas guzzling SUVs, and unhealthy junk food we exported to other places.

Nope. You can impeach people (and, more to the point, conduct the trial that follows said impeachment) after they've left office. Notably, this has already happened: William Bellknap resigned before his impeachment, and West Hughes Humphries was impeached after joining the Confederacy (though the latter didn't explicitly resign). Also, William Blount, though the Senate ended up ruling that you can't impeach Senators at all, so that one was somewhat academic.
