This makes me think of the uselessness of bag X-rays at subway stations in China. A smart terrorist will just bomb people crowding together right at the checkpoints. Of course, the baggage X-rays make subway riders feel 'safe' and show the government is 'protecting' them just as closing the capitol makes people feel 'safe.'

Another idea is they would just try to kill lawmakers in an easier place (like a restaurant or movie theater). I am not saying do nothing. Have extra security when there are threats (because many terrorists are impatient and careless and lack smart strategies) but don't close it down. Don't let terrorists make us cower in fear.

Singapore canes people in a safe and humane way. They don't want to cause heart attacks by caning people. They are actually quite logical and careful.

Most people work 40-50 hours a week. Why should prisoners get to relax more than common non-prisoners? They need to be punished.

You seem to be taking the "punish people" route, which doesn't work out that well in the long run. All you end up doing is wasting people's time and creating an underclass of people.

Punishment AND rehabilitation. I like prison programs like prisoners helping to train dogs for the blind or learning vocational skills. There needs to be more of these programs. For American citizen prisoners, vocational training could be an option and they could have fewer hours of forced labor to ensure they have time for skills training. Prisons also should have libraries and perhaps prisoners could take classes to learn how to read and write and be able to get their GED as well.
