What is the purpose of a government, then? Just to sit there looking pretty?

To keep social order mostly, along with like making sure there’s not literal slavery going on, and they’re not exactly doing that by saying gays can’t get married or what types of plants are oaky and which aren’t.

Where between "hey, stop enslaving those people" and "the Hawai'ian goose (nēnē) shall be protected from harassment on the grounds of golf courses and clubs in Kaua'i County pursuant to the 2018 revised EPA guidance on enforcement of the Endangered Species Act" are you saying we should draw the line? Because if I had to pick, I'd probably put protecting biodiversity and permitting gay marriage on the side of being important enough to enforce.

Climate change is a natural process and the world was actually much hotter during the time of the dinosaurs. Yes, humans are partly but likely not all to blame. Tree planting campaigns can help solve the problem. Anyways, it is about choice and you are not forced to drive a gas guzzler or use coal at home if you are a tree-hugger just as people should be allowed to eat meat or not eat meat based on their ethics.

I agree with meat eating but climate change is real and man made lmfao

I can choose to socially distance myself from that person if he/she refuses to put out the cigarette when I politely ask (if it really bothers me). If the company allows smoking, I can choose to work or not work there if they refuse to change their policies. Most companies were already trying a balance by having smoking sections to make both sides happy (because they want to maximize customers and pleasing both sides is to their benefit).

If the climate gets warmer, we can adapt. Alaska real estate will go up while Floridians will need to move. Remember that it won't happen in a day. 2012 is just a movie and a HUGE exaggeration. Likely, some nations will offer refuge to islanders from island nations about to sink.

Walking away is not equal to having to move.

Well, then we'll just have to politically contest things issue by issue as they come up, and you'll need to stop pronouncing that it's generally always wrong for the government to legislate ethics.

That only proves that it wasn't just full of poor people. Many of the people there drove from places nearby like Virginia and based on how they look, I doubt they were rich.

Fact: McDonald’s didn’t just serve their coffee hot– their operations manual required that is be served between 180 and 190 degrees; 30-40 degrees hotter than other coffee-serving restaurants in the area. The Shriner’s Burn Institute in Cincinnati issued warnings that coffee served above 130 degrees was “dangerously hot.” McDonald’s knew that their coffee was “not fit for consumption” at the temperature it was served because it caused third-degree burns within 3-7 seconds of contact with the skin. In the ten years prior to this accident they had 700 complaints of burns from their coffee, including complaints of burns to children and infants from accidental spills.

They knew it was dangerous and did nothing about it.

I agree that they were irresponsible and that such findings should have been reported in the news. Remember, I am fine with propaganda being used to educate the public of dangers. Ethically, McDonald's was wrong to serve coffee so hot but legally, they should not have gotten in trouble (at least by my standards, but likely under US law which is quite unreasonable, they broke some kind of rule).

This is why I'm inclined to believe that Trumps candidacy was originally a publicity stunt that snowballed wildly out of control because nobody realized just how far off the deep end the the GOP base had gone.

The constant intense and extremely public exposure, criticism, and scrutiny of his activities is completely antithetical for a narcissistic con-man who has always counted on being able to quietly bribe or bully his way out of trouble.

So in your opinion people and businesses shouldn't get in trouble for knowingly selling defectives products that cause injury. That is a crazy take.
