I haven't heard of this happening, and it does sound pretty funny, but given the level of insight you show in the rest of this post, I'm almost afraid the actual story is some terrible tragedy where the company really was at fault.

It rarely does. Libertarianism is an ideology that appeals to 16 year olds who think the world will revolve around them, that they will be able to do whatever they want, whenever they want and that they will be in charge.

Then usually they read about one of the numerous horror stories of corporations paying their way out of trouble and the whole edifice kinda falls apart.

Not necessarily. I mean, almost nobody I know is actually opposed to the idea of individual autonomy, liberty, or the right to spend the product of their own labor as they please. The trouble is that most people (including myself) arrive at Libertarianism at an age where someone else is footing their not dying of hunger and exposure expenses. Once they get the boot, as it were, and realize how not dying of hunger and exposure means working with other people, means having to compromise a little because one is not the only one with rights to liberty and labor...well, some moderate at least a little bit.

Yeah. In many ways, the McDonalds hot coffee woman is one of the biggest examples of a corporate media smear campaign - and one of the most successful. She had every right to sue (and let's not forget she was one in a class action law suit- several hundred people were suing simultaneously) but the company spent all of their money in making her out to be some kind of idiot out to make a quick buck.
