Well quite hence my initial ask as to the legal status of this, it's basically been radio silence for coming on to a week now.. is he just sulking like a baby and willingly letting people do any communications or is he being told what to say and do - as I understand it there's been zero conversations between Trump and Pence.

Is there really much of a functional difference? If he stepped back, humiliated, and was "letting" people do these communications, I'm pretty sure at this point no one would be willing to let him take full charge again; if he's being directed under a full-blown house arrest type situation then he's probably also sulking like a baby and pretending that he's a willing participant.

It is disappointing that they didn’t reveal these security vulnerabilities responsibly, to be honest. Disclosure is always a tricky thing and under normal circumstances this is the worst way to do it (which an actual security researcher should know). Even when you’re claiming it’s for law enforcement purposes you can disclose it privately to them without purposefully creating a privacy breach yourself.
