I heard Mitch McConnell is upset with the censoring of Trump on Twitter, so it seems like Mitch McConnell is playing anti Trump and Pro Trump where it suits his interests.

I wish Mitch McConnel were impeached as Republican minority leader in the Senate for his betrayal of President Trump and Trump Supporters.

Apparently, they haven’t talked since…the 15th, irrc

Echoing what WRA said that the only 15th they could have talked on is December 15th. Jesus McConnell must be fucking pissed at Trump. which is quite the mood tbh... and I just sympathized with Mitch McConnell. I need to take a shower.

Yeah, I've gotten the impression from veterans I know and in my family that norms against the uniformed forces deploying domestically really for anything, never mind installing/removing a President, are so strong that even if, somehow, the DoD had been completely stacked with Biden/Harris sympathizers, and the halls of Congress filled with all their grandmothers, the DoD would have still dragged its heels to deploy the Guard on Wednesday.

**Normal warnings about selection bias and the like here.

That isn't what I was saying, but it does illustrate another danger-- that their aversion to engagement in domestic politics will lead them to permit a coup through inaction. If it was DoD as a whole sitting on the Guard on Wednesday (rather than, as has been reported, the President and perhaps the Acting SECDEF), that'd be indicative of this problem. A butterfly flaps its wings in Tanzania, and suddenly the Guard are arriving hours late to a building full of dead legislators as the coup is presented to the Joint Chiefs as a fait accompli-- and then what, do they initiate a counter-coup of their own volition? Do they swallow whatever the president is forcing on them? Do they continue to waffle?

Given that the military is one of the only institutions that still enjoys a high degree of social trust, I expect these are some of the political questions that the Joint Chiefs may be called upon to make during my lifetime, and I also expect there's an ambitious colonel or two out there somewhere, watching all of this go down and getting all kinds of ideas as a result...

It's likely my impression could be way off, given I've only ever been a civilian, but that's an aspect that I'd not thought of. And didn't really want to think of, come to think of it.

So its either Trump is deflecting blame from himself like the spineless wuss he is, or he just admitted that he did in fact incite the violence that went down on the 6th. Interesting.

Trump deflecting the blame from himself is more likely in this case. It's not the first time he would do something similar.

What an anti-American thing to say. No surprise, people who hate America and it's democratic system of government place Trump over country.

#Pompeo2024

Mike Pompeo is perhaps America's greatest Secretary of State in recent history. If he runs for President and wins in 2024, I believe he will heal America's divisions, firmly unite all Americans and America's allies against China, Russia, and other enemies of freedom, and uphold Western and American exceptionalism without a failed wannabe dictator and complete, self-interested, narcissistic asshole breathing down his neck or the threat of being fired without warning. Nothing would hold him back this time. Mike would readily concede defeat in the event of an election loss rather than incite violence and insurrection. The guy incidentally also rejects wokism, identity politics, and political correctness unlike Biden and very much unlike Harris.

(My only gripe is that the attendees shook hands instead of bowing or bumping elbows.)

"It is all authoritarianism cloaked as moral righteousness"
Damn…

A very apt description of not only the GOP but also Mike Pompeo himself. Don’t kid yourself, Pompeo is also an authoritarian.
