Yes we do. In both communists/socialist utopia and libertarian utopia, there will be a need for state funded police. No matter how much free stuff you give people while telling them how wonderful and special they are, no matter how much "liberty" you afford people while chanting the NAP, people will murder and steal and it will fall to some public institution of civilization to deal with it.

And to piggy back off what others have said Private police still exist in the form of railroad police. They tend to have an extremely bad reputation for being assholes and tend to make regular cops look like Saints by comparison

We need some form of police to enforce laws and keep us safe. We absolutely need to decrease the prison population and hold bad apples accountable but eliminating police altogether will just cause more problems.

I’m pretty sure however there would be ways that the government could help pay for costs for these services. As not everyone can afford it.

If a fully private system is not made I would much rather prefer them cut costs extremely, reducing the size of the police force massively, and using that extra money towards welfare, education, and welfare.

We need to release non-violent offenders like drug users and prostitutes with employment and educational programs. Right now the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world and there's no reason for it. Plus, fewer prisons and prisoners will be able to pay for these rehabilitation programs

Actually there is a very good reason why our incarceration rate is so high. Someone is benefiting by it greatly and the politicians we keep re-electing will not put a stop to it.

I say we take a small plot of land with people living in it, make it a ''sovereign'' state of sorts and remove any sort of law enforcement from it, place cameras everywhere and air it as a reality show. For USA, Detroit could be a great filming location. For Turkey, any part of Istanbul would work, although my preference would be Esenyurt district. No, all you do is claim that anything less than a 100% closure rate is proof that police are useless and we're better off without them, ignoring actual evidence like the crime rate in CHAZ going through the roof when the police weren't there.

I don't know, 20% closure rate for certain crimes seems rather inefficient when funding runs in hundreds of billions. (Also, what happened to claiming we lack valid sources?)
