I also find it strange they're against legal abortion considering studies show that nations where abortion is legal have much lower abortion rates than nations where it's illegal.

For example, 5 in 1,000 in Switzerland and 13 in 1,000 in the U.S. and U.K.

Meanwhile, in nations like Pakistan, the abortion rate is 50 in 1,000.

Nations in the Caribbean and Latin America have some of the highest abortion rates despite having some of the strictest abortion laws in the world. And studies show that nations that have legalized abortion have seen decreasing abortion rates in the last 30 years while nations with strict abortion laws have seen increases in abortion rates during that same 30 year period.

There are those that claim that a fetus is not a person, and therefore they don't have the same rights as everyone who has already been born into the this world, and to me this is comparable to racial or sexual discrimination. The idea that an unborn child is not a person due to their unborn status and not deserving of separate personhood from their mother is comparable to the idea that black slaves weren't human because they were black, and therefore considered property of the slave owner. Abortion is just another form of discrimination based on age, and a type of discrimination that violates the inalienable right to life when said unborn child has done absolutely nothing wrong. Fetuses can't be "punished", it is impossible to punish something that has no consciousness and no feelings. You might as well be saying that every human being including vegans "punishes" plants by eating them. A first trimester fetus is no more sentient than a tree.
