Being victimized is not something honorable and worth celebrating. Instead it is something worth examining. Why did we get hurt? What could we have done to avoid that? What can we learn from the unfortunate events in terms of strategy and tactics?

For example “what shall Carthage have done to defeat Rome or at least survive it” is worth discussing. “How evil was the Roman Republic to Carthage” on the other hand is not worth discussing if you are actually Carthagian since discussing it does not actually improve Carthage or its diaspora in any way. It might be a useful topic in Roman internal politics or German / Persian propaganda but it is not very useful for surviving Carthagians.
