I've been saying this in one form or another for most of my adult life. If you want to have a functioning pluralistic society, you have to accept that someone can be intelligent, informed, and well-intentioned and still disagree with you. If the default assumption of one's opposition is that they are stupid, ignorant, and/or evil, authoritarian sentiment will inevitably flourish.

Blame that on politicians, etc. de-humanizing their opponents.

The Republic was in no danger of being couped. Believe it or not, illegally occupying a building and trashing it doesn't actually do anything to our process. As we can already tell by the fact that the process is ongoing within hours of this happening.

That's not to say it's not extremely concerning, but not a whole lot was at stake here.
