I can't imagine who'd break off a serious relationship over something so trivial as a board game.

Perhaps a couple in a permanent D/S relation; where the sub deceiving the master is seen as a breach of contract?
But then they should not be playing RISK in the first place.

Not my area of expertise, but I thought -- in those circumstances -- submission was still only consensual. That's why 50 Shades took all the flak for its portrayal... that and its crappy prose.

In retrospect, I'm not even sure why I'd want anyone to -- for want of a better phrase -- go easy on me in a board game. If they don't compete or play at their best, in order to let me feel better, they're not respecting me as an adult. That's not the basis for a healthy relationship with a "Special Someone".

I'll go easy once. The first time, if the SO is learning the ropes...

Wait, that sounds like the D/S relationship again :p

Well, if your partner doesn't know the rules, that's different (I was working on the assumption that everyone knew the rules). One sample play through, just to learn the rules.

Second time, the dice come out and the gloves come off. :p

Exodia’s very outdated in the meta by now I think?

Last time I checked they were all playing pendulums, synchros, and other new tech that I can’t keep up with :)

Is there even still a shadow realm in the current series?

To quote a popular saying about a different board game, there are two types of Diplomacy players; those that shoot for a solo victory, and losers.

Is Diplomacy more fun?

I find that Risk depends too much on the conquest card luck factor late game

That might be fun, depending on how it was set up (a brief look hasn't found anything that seems to enable people to choose who they want to play Risk against online, though -- the only one I found seems to pair you automatically with random players from what I've read -- but I haven't got time for a long look, so I could be wrong).

NSG is already a hotbed of disagreements and arguments, and you want them to play Risk?!

I'll gladly host a forum game of a variant map of Diplomacy, if people want that. F7 is probably the right place to do it, I think?

I'll take over NS Australia and try to sit out the war... (this is what I generally try to do); trade for 1 conquest card every turn
