I miss good ol' Margaret sometimes. I knew her briefly for a few years at the end of her life, but she still inspires me.

At 64, she stopped smoking and got addicted to running instead. By 81, she'd acquired the Guinness world record for oldest woman to run a marathon on all seven continents, the marathon on Antarctica being the seventh continent - she'd hitched a ride to the continent on a Russian icebreaker. She passed away in 2015, age 92. She'd run 81 marathons, dozens of triathlons, and thousands of 5Ks and 10Ks. She also ran marathons on the Great Wall of China, Mount Everest, and the original marathon route in Athens, Greece.

When I met her in 2012, she was 89 and had stopped running marathons because of an injury - she'd relegated herself to half marathons. But she did go on to run her final marathon that year, at Mount Kilimanjaro.
