A Microsoft-developed chatbot learned to say racist stuff (Holocaust denial, for example) from users. It was shut down by Microsoft after only 16 hours.

It’s interesting that in China it is the anti-PRC stuff that caused a chatbot to be taken offline.

In general chatbots often make mistakes. It is only when it really offends rulers / social consensus that it gets noticed.

Not an AI expert at all, but if it learns what to say based on what users post, well, there is bound to be a variety of content, not all of it good.

Conservatives are very threatened by the idea that it's polite to list your pronouns, because allowing for the possibility that a person's pronouns might not be immediately obvious from their appearance undermines their beliefs about gender. If someone presents feminine but prefers to be referred to in masculine or neutral terms, then they see that as an attack on their belief in a strict binary nature of sex and gender expression, and they have a Ben Shapiro-esque freakout about how pronouns are a function of a person's chromosomes and not just a part of speech in English.

I don't think so. You are insisting that other people go along with your identity politics. People do not have to identify with anyone else's identity politics. Telling people what they must believe is unacceptable. Your preference is not something I have to follow. Whether you are a he/she or neutral has absolutely no relevance to me and many other people. Quite a bit of the new identity politics are controlling and demeaning. They ask you to apologize for what you believe, then follow a scripted formula on how you talk to people. Addressing people by name is relevant because of this. When someone tells you that you have to call me X because I want you to call me X is not entirely unbiased.

It's just basic politeness to refer to people by the terms they would prefer. People do this with their names all the time. Perhaps you recall Jeff Sessions from his stint as Donald Trump's Attorney General? His full name is Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, a name I cannot read without affecting a Southern drawl. But everyone just calls him Jeff. Does that strike you as the same kind of attempt to force you to go along with his identity politics? Is it controlling and demeaning for him to prefer a shortened version of his name? Or in the other direction, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was apparently called "Sandy" in her youth. Is it controlling and demeaning for her to now prefer to use her full name or her initials rather than a nickname?

It starts with you have hurt me, you must apologize. This applies to everyone of a particular creed, color, or race. Then it goes to you must talk about me in this way. There is no other way that is acceptable. Then when people don't agree, they get labeled racist, sexist, or classist. It lumps people into larger categories, conservative, religious, etc. and demonizes people. In my opinion, the majority of people don't care about your identity until you make it an issue.

If someone tells you how they would like to be referred to, and you insist on disregarding their preference, that's not them demonising you, that's you being rude. If someone introduces himself to you as Robert but you keep calling him Bob or Frank or Kate, that's you being disrespectful, not Robert attacking you.

It does not start with I respect you as a person and I want to know how you would like me talk about you. I would like you to talk about how I want to be addressed. How do you prefer to be addressed? This is better.

Maybe don't accuse people of being controlling and demeaning when they tell you their pronouns and you won't piss them off. Or maybe they'll be pissed off anyway, because sometimes people are having a bad day and have no patience for you feeling attacked by them correcting you on how to refer to them.

I'll be blunt. I can't stand identity politics. I prefer addressing people by name and as a person based on individual preference because of this. There is a political script going on which says label me x and speak to you in x way. People are accepting the labels wholeheartedly which come from the government, black, white, hispanic, asian, male, female, etc. and insisting that you use them. These categories were created to control people as a legacy of racism. There will be a price for forcing people to identify you in a certain way. There will be a way that people will be expected to talk about you if this continues. It will become mandated by law, that you are supposed to talk and act in a certain way or you are discriminating against them. Your options will narrow.

Who on Earth insists that people refer to them by their race or ethnicity or sex and not by their name and possibly title or by a relevant third person pronoun?

Quite a few ethnicities and potential racial categories are not clearly identified. They tend to do better than the identified categories. Identity can be used as a form of oppression.

The language will then turn on you. People will follow the script, then they will start using "coded language", creating new ways to discriminate against you with language that appears acceptable.

Pronouns are the first step towards 1984.
