Spiritual Republic of Caryton wrote:It's no surprise, the holidays are rolling around. In 2020, you can't predict anything. This topic may have been discussed before, lost in the sands of the NS forums, but I feel like now is a better time than ever to ask the common yet meaningful question: What does Christmas mean to you?
This is a simple thread, but the possibilities are endless. Do you still tell the traditions of Santa Claus? Do you solemnly remember the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives and his deeds- commemorating his birth? Do you strive to serve others? Cook dinner? What are your traditions? Should there be one way to celebrate the holiday or do you believe that traditions can bend? What is the holiday season? Maybe you don't celebrate, or subscribe to a different major holiday. That's also well and good.
Share insight with others, despise fruitcake, try to keep major political arguments out of this as a matter of posterity. Comment on traditions, keep discussion alive.
Do you want to have a chance to make others holidays a bit brighter? Help Light The World. Light The World is an annual movement lead by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to inspire service, Christlike love, and strengthening the holiday spirit. Get daily text reminders with prompts to help quell these chaotic times and be there for your community. Obligatory disclaimer, this is not a secular service. If you'd rather stay away from Christian doctrines, I'd still advise you visit the website below for a list of charities to consider sharing to. To be a part of this month long initiative, see lighttheworld.org
What does Christmas mean to me? I try to help my friends as much as I can in these times. My christmas season is relatively reserved and quiet, and our house regretfully isn't abuzz with life. There are still presents, and there is still dinner. For me, it's just a relaxing getaway. I've tried to remember the origins of the day and put more thought into Jesus' life and teachings but overall it's pretty eventless. I've heard people describe everything from massive christmas trees to dancing with their extended relatives, so I am intrigued to know what everyone's holiday season is like.

No, I’m not referring to people who don’t celebrate Christmas because of their beliefs. I’m referring to how it seems like there several people on here who hate Christmas. Maybe it’s just me idk.

I do rather observe an eclectic holiday of Saturnalia, Yule, and Dies Natalis Solis Invicti, as a neopagan witch. I use it to share in bounty and abundance with my loved ones, keep the hope of warmth and the light of the Sun throughout winter, and harness the magic from the Winter Solstice. Overall, I call it candlenights because candles represent the eternal flame from the stars and the Sun that enlightens the earth.

Abolitionism in the North has leagued itself with Radical Democracy, and so the Slave Power was forced to ally itself with the Money Power; that is the great fact of the age.

I hate Christmas. I don't hate the religious significance at all; contrary, I wish it were viewed as a religious holiday again and weren't so overly commercialized to the point of beginning in October.
