The whole holiday is a religious propaganda machine captured by the retail industry and used as an emotional prybar by patriarchs and matriarchs in families to browbeat family members setting off on their own. Let's just have two Arbor Days.

I wouldn't be opposed to having two Arbor Days, however, I would be opposed to eliminating Christmas. Take it from the bear with a Santa hat on.

One time in the year where I have to quickly memorize a few poems for the gifts, and realize that I am not sure what I actually want for Christmas.

While there are people for which Christmas means a lot more on a spiritual level, I just can't feel the same and more often than not it is just a normal day for me, except I can put more food in stomach.

I use Christmas as a time to talk to old friends and to have a good time with friends online. Christmas is possibly the best holiday of the year.
I like videogames and basketball. Thats about it.

Spiritual Republic of Caryton wrote:It's no surprise, the holidays are rolling around. In 2020, you can't predict anything. This topic may have been discussed before, lost in the sands of the NS forums, but I feel like now is a better time than ever to ask the common yet meaningful question: What does Christmas mean to you?

This is a simple thread, but the possibilities are endless. Do you still tell the traditions of Santa Claus? Do you solemnly remember the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives and his deeds- commemorating his birth? Do you strive to serve others? Cook dinner? What are your traditions? Should there be one way to celebrate the holiday or do you believe that traditions can bend? What is the holiday season? Maybe you don't celebrate, or subscribe to a different major holiday. That's also well and good.

Share insight with others, despise fruitcake, try to keep major political arguments out of this as a matter of posterity. Comment on traditions, keep discussion alive.

Do you want to have a chance to make others holidays a bit brighter? Help Light The World. Light The World is an annual movement lead by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to inspire service, Christlike love, and strengthening the holiday spirit. Get daily text reminders with prompts to help quell these chaotic times and be there for your community. Obligatory disclaimer, this is not a secular service. If you'd rather stay away from Christian doctrines, I'd still advise you visit the website below for a list of charities to consider sharing to. To be a part of this month long initiative, see lighttheworld.org

What does Christmas mean to me? I try to help my friends as much as I can in these times. My christmas season is relatively reserved and quiet, and our house regretfully isn't abuzz with life. There are still presents, and there is still dinner. For me, it's just a relaxing getaway. I've tried to remember the origins of the day and put more thought into Jesus' life and teachings but overall it's pretty eventless. I've heard people describe everything from massive christmas trees to dancing with their extended relatives, so I am intrigued to know what everyone's holiday season is like.

What does Christmas mean to me? Hopefully an end to the fuck-ton of parcels we have to deliver EVERY DAY at the post office.

Oh, and Christmas dinner with family.

The time to get together with friend and family (not that we can do that now safely) and celebrate the wondrous birth of the savior Jesus Christ.

No animosity, it simply is not part of my religious tradition and so has no special meaning. It is like asking someone what Yom Kippur means to you.

No, I’m not referring to people who don’t celebrate Christmas because of their beliefs. I’m referring to how it seems like there several people on here who hate Christmas. Maybe it’s just me idk.

Christmas is probably one of my favorite times of year. It is mostly because I feel like people are happier than usual. Something about seeing others happy, makes me happy. It is another time of the year where I get to spend time with my family. We are all constantly working, going to school, or etc so this is the time where we can see each other more while we can. My family usually goes downtown and looks at all the lights. It is so pretty to see the lights hanging up while sipping on some hot chocolate. It makes me appreciate the time I have to spend with my family.

I think its more that most people on here dont bother with the religious side of it any more. Its more of a secular holiday now anyway at this point and a lot of people focus on the gift giving, having time off and eating a ton of food.

whoops missed this one:

I hate Christmas. I don't hate the religious significance at all; contrary, I wish it were viewed as a religious holiday again and weren't so overly commercialized to the point of beginning in October.

Not trying to be a contrarian; I'm just stating my own admittedly unpopular opinion. I don't see what joy or cheer people get in the endless consumerism and consumption of the holiday season. It definitely doesn't seem very cheerful when the stores are all packed with grumpy people in a rush to get gifts and barking at whoever is through no fault of their own in their way.
