State of Cali: Laws

Postby Untecna » Tue Dec 01, 2020 7:46 am

Okay, so I live in the US state of California, and understand that there are plenty of problems with laws here. SO, I figured, make a General subforum debate thread where we can debate on the laws of California and other political aspects of the state.

Let's begin with Prop 22. What do you think? Express your thoughts below.

I may not be an expert on them, but I feel like I know about way too many obscure video/audio formats.

Lived in CA a decade ago, back when Republicans still existed.

Now living out-of-state, I'm still confused how the same state votes like it's roleplaying as the contrarian in a Philosophy class.

Like, y'all voted no on Prop 20 enforcing stricter sentencing laws, yet voted no on Prop 25 replacing cash bail? Florida called it wants its chaotic energy back.

Dunno about California, but at least here, the independent contractor scheme has greatly benefited millions of motorcab drivers, most of whom are originally already working as local motorcab drivers before the emergence of Gojek/Grab (SEA equivalent of Uber/Lyft) anyways. This won't really exist with a normal employment scheme. Then again, I really like the Gojek founder as a person (who has now resigned to become education minister), so I'm definitely biased.

Props have always been a dumpster fire in Cali. It's a cool system in theory, but is dysfunctional in practice.

Prop 23, for example.

The Proposition system is foolish. I rarely vote one way or the either on any of them, simply because I have no knowledge or interest investment in the issue. For example, I don't know jack shit about the operation of a kidney dialysis clinic, why should I be deciding how they operate?

Failure of direct democracy in action? We ordinary citizens simply don't have enough time nor relevant knowledge to review a 1000-page building regulation and make an educated decision. We delegate that laborious task to representatives and their many staffs and NGO allies.

I never fail to enjoy the fact that Prop 16 failed.

The fact it was up to vote in the first place though...
