You seem like a good person. Please do not follow any of the above steps, there are ways to become politically active without betraying your morals.

basically this. be an old white guy (obama doesn't count as a real president until we see his birth certificate find out his last name), be ridiculously rich, be a republican if you are right-wing or a democrat if you are a little less right wing a communist not, abandon ideals and embrace compromise, and from there it's just obscene amounts of bribes funding and the fickle will of the people, as well as the cruel mistress that is the electoral college. good luck?

looking back on when i used to want to be president (do not ridicule me, i was in elementary/middle school, and therefore very unbased), i'm very confused as to why i ever thought i could win the election, and, more importantly, handle a high-stress job. nowadays i just worry about the future without one of the most stressful positions in the world. but hey, someone's gotta do it, and i'm sure a lot of people could do it better than many past/current presidents! pity they aren't rich enough. *exploits labor for profit*

I think I'd make an ok President. Not too good though, just ok. I'd be a master of fundraising.

Honestly, you need to know someone who’s apart of the establishment. Or be a member of the establishment yourself, Connect to richer people, more popular people, do favors for them. Then, in the future when you run for presidency, they’ll be there to help or support you along the way. By that point though, you’ll have already become apart of the establishment.

Well that's why I assume college: you make friends who may later be part of the establishment. The political party club at college will have some cross-section of those, also friends you may need later in the party.

Mind you, that applies best if your "college" is Ivy League. The US has a very stratified tertiary education system. The chance someone you know at a state university later becomes nationally famous, I guess aren't that good.

In Australia we don't have private colleges so much as a few big public Universities with the future 'establishment' diluted by more obscure future 'professionals' and of course some dropouts like me. I never really fitted in with the Student Politics scene, because I was going through a confused phase between being a Soviet-line Communist and some kind of AnCom, but I did see a lot of Tony Abbott (later Prime Minister) and Anthony Albanese (current Labor leader, possible future PM). I talked to Albo a few times: I'm sure we could have been friends if I hadn't been so intent on proving myself Leftier than him.

The essence of being "in the Establishment" is to be able to exchange favors with others of the Establishment. It can save your ass and open opportunities to have a friend in the Establishment, but if you're all take and no give you're not Establishment. If that sounds corrupt then so be it: you don't get respect just for doing your job, you have to abuse power to some extent if you're to be worth consideration. Others have to need you for something, or fear that you'll use your discretion against them, or you're nothing more than your rank and can't move up fast.

If your university is Ivy league you start in federal politics.

If you go to state U ( especially the flagship of the state university system). You start in regional politics and your path to President is through the governors office. From what I've seen in the south There is a degree of hostility to Ivy League in the last ten years. So we see a lot of Texas Governors come through University of Texas or Texas A&M.

So if he is in a big state State U works for governor than President.

Well he’s kinda wrong yes be rich but you don’t have to be born into it. Look at Biden or some other presidents who were born into poverty or middle class

And those days don’t exist anymore. The times where you could go from rags to riches is quite frankly over

I'd be an inspiring disaster. Probably resign right after the mid-terms, and for my parting speech sing the worst cover of House Of The Rising Sun that anyone has ever heard. Then shoot myself.

Being my VP would be a good gig though. You want it?

Get the hell off the internet. In this day and age there is no guarantee of anonymity. You could use a fake name, never post pics, use a VPN and there is still a chance it will get back to you one day.

I certainly wouldn't feel good about running for office, there is so much I have posted here, things that I sincerely believe and standby that I still understand would destroy me.
