Advice for someone who wants to one day run for POTUS

So ever since I learned the words politics it has always interested me. Now I started my interest in 2016, although I’ll admit I believed everything that everyone said ( I supported trump because my dad did). I would say I really got super interested a couple months ago. When the pandemic personally affected me (school was made all virtual and my parents got sick with it) and Trump failed to control the spread, I sudd rly found myself watching CNN and the Covid-19 briefings everyday. I think I’m so interested by politics mainly because I enjoy history and and I wanted to create my own history. Now possibly in the mid 2040s/ early 2050’s I want to run for president. Of course I will have at least 20 years of experience in the senate, and 4 years in college. So what do you think? Any advice or comments?

Basically, campaign on things that poll well but make sure you've got a lot of money behind you. Billion dollar superPACS that pay for ads against your opponent, especially. When it comes to reliable donations, you'll definitely need backers with a lot of cash.

Associate yourself with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation, for to do good is all we have to do! Have the right attitude, for you will be unstoppable; otherwise, nothing on Earth will help the man with the wrong attitude. Be confident, don't go for the money, inspire others to do more, as a leader. Acknowledge your shortcomings and errors along the way, you are never 100% right. Do a job, rather than explaining why you didn't. Take in stride an honourable defeat, rather than a dishonourable victory. If you don't like someone regardless of reasons, get to know them better. The usual paths (state office, US House, US Senate, President ... or state office in a major state, Governor, President) are very crowded with other talented and ambitious people. Who will kneecap you at the first opportunity.

In the future, a distinguished career elsewhere but politics might give you a better chance. Since that's a "wider path" you won't cross swords with so many aspiring politicians. On the other hand, becoming distinguished by age 40 or so, in Law, Medicine, IT or Science, would require unusual talent on your part, masses of hard work and no family or partying. Then you run for Governor (doesn't have to be a major state in this scenario, but not a minnow state), serve AT LEAST one term, then get in the Presidential Primaries for your chosen party.

A distinguished early career outside politics does imply going to college. If you have parental support (and seriously, consider still living with parents: it saves a lot of money and girls/boys won't be such a distraction) or you're prepared to take a massive loan, you might also be able to run for minor local or state offices while studying. This isn't for your Presidential resume so much, it gets you in good with your party.

One thing I'm not so sure about the US, but here in Australia practically every senior politician started with their party when they were still in school. There's a youth branch of every party: you should join that if you haven't already. Even decades in the future, you will win supporters early in the primary process, among obscure party officials and volunteers, who are impressed by nothing so much as Loyalty to the Party. "I could be like that one day" they think. So much better than "who is this person with their degree and their millions of bucks, what are they even doing in my party".

The trick is to seem like an insider, to your fellow party members. But seem like an outsider to the general voters. Just joining the youth branch is one small thing you can do now which will pay off big in the future. I didn't do it myself, but only because I couldn't pick a party!
