POLL: How interested are you in real-world politics?

PostPosted: Wed Nov 25, 2020 10:17 pm

I'm curious as to how much the average NS player is interested in real-world politics, so I made this poll to see. FYI, the descriptions for each option are just examples to give you an idea of what each level means. You can still pick "mostly" while not voting at all, for example.

Feel free to elaborate further in a reply if you wish. What makes you interested in politics, and what makes you want to run and scream for hiding?

Personally, I'm a polisci major, so... I simp.

It is considered polite for the person starting the thread to give their opinion and to provide some topics for discussion. This is not the General Poll Forum, after all.

Maybe you can also add your own political experience and opinions to your OP, to get us started. As for me, I would say somewhat interested in politics.

A lot. Too much. It’s my major and I work in the field.

Also, I also want to add that people can be interested in politics without voting so you might want to adjust your poll questions.

I used to be very much into politics but after 2017 I entered a phase and stopped paying attention to it. But ever since 2020 hits the interest kinda came back but not as much as a political junkie.

Same, although I am too young to do either of those latter things, but I also want to go into public policy (environmental policy, specifically)

My life is politics at this point, and Im guessing for many it is as well. Been super interested since 2016

It varies. Usually more interested when politics are going off into the ditch, less so when things are going ok.

Even though I’m too young to vote, I literally do simp politics. I want to one day run for president in the late 2040’s or 50’s although I want to. Be a senator before that or a journalist. I’m actually redoing the room to have a poster of all the presidents including election winner Joe Biden (who I argued about with my dad telling him why Joe Biden is amazing). I can’t wait till my first election I can vote.

I am pretty interested in politics. I follow European and North American politics closely and do vote when I have the chance. I'm not very interested in the major parties as I do fall into the centrist category.

Can't vote in American politics (I'm a foreigner), but I do live and breathe politics. I closely follow the news from the US and other places around the world.

Certainly. I'm not interested in following celebrities' private life.

Instead it’s the public live lol, but all jokes aside 70-90 percent of the time politicaltions can be a joke, now not all but most. I really do inspire to change that and to make being a senator or representative honorable again

Sorry about that, I'm new here, and didn't see there was a general poll forum. I edited my post so hopefully it's adequate now.

Until Kim met with Trump to ask him to pardon a woman she was representing in prison. Suddenly, politics and celeb gossip melded and what a weird, strange timeline we live in.

I've been obsessed with politics and political theory since I was a preteen. I have many interests that don't have to do with politics, but many of my friendships are full of political discussion as well

I've been pretty pessimistic and apathetic after the 2019 elections, where all the parties involved basically says "yeet" and combined into a unified government of 80% majority, rendering the election a little bit useless. At the same time, I actually have a pretty good faith at the technocratic sectors of the government. For this reason, I really like the party I'm supporting right now, a small but loud party whose primary activity is exposing mismanagement (though they have sadly been quiet now).

It also depends on the issue, though this might be influenced by my nature, of which I admit is a little bit selfish. I'm an adamant anti-Islamist, I fervently opposed the criminal bill and campaigned against it, as it pushes us closer to Islamist authoritarianism and will personally affect everyone. The jobs bill meanwhile, I don't really care as I understand the rationale behind it (of which I support), even though it's literally designed to oppress low-wage workers at the profit of foreign investors.

But if we're talking about mere thoughts, I have a lot of strong opinions, especially in regards to the environment. I kinda fall in line with paternalistic futurism and anti-regulatory libertarianism espoused by the tech bros of Silicon Valley, including in some of the, uh, more controversial stances. I guess "Andrew Yangism" would be closest, but I would also like for his policies to be rigorously evaluated first (Universal Basic Adjustment Benefit for example is an idea more interesting than UBI).

Not too long ago I was very interested. I've found now though that decreasing my interaction with it - albeit by a small amount - has been much healthier for me.

Only insofar that it affects me personally. Beyond that I find it one of the most emotiaonkly and psychologically damaging and painful things in my life.

I'm more interested in my actual life: dating, working, spending time with my friends and family. Politics doesn't put food on the table or get you ahead unless you're an active player in the game so for now I kind of just check out. It'd be nice to have SUPERPAC funding but that takes awhile to guarantee.
