I mean, I won't deny Netanyahu's been surprisingly effective in his mission to bring Israel it's safety by making friends! in the region -three normalizations in less than a year is no small feat- but a Nobel Peace Prize? He's been no man of peace, nor can he afford to be.

The Nobel prize for peace is one of the greatest examples on how disconnected from reality things really are. They give it to people who are actively creating wars and killing people, it's a huge joke, from Obama and the EU while they (Obama with the US and EU with it's biggest members) were bombing countries for government changes, killing thousands and fucking up countries to bring "democracy", to Aung San Suu Kyi that later denied the killings of the Ronhingya, and the newest member of the peace loving killers, Abiy Ahmed Ali. It's really a award that's empty in it's meaning since they give it to people like this, they shouldn't give it every year if they can't find a proper person nor should they give it to politicians who are still active since no one knows what's going to happen tommorow and you could very well be giving a prize to an asshole. Why not make it a posthumous thing? Or at least only giving it to people who have dedicated their life to peace and humanitarian efforts, i.e old people who aren't really going to become a violent maniac in their last days on earth. Or at least give it to people who don't already have blood in their hands, that would be a good start.

That was more or less my thinking as well; there are hundreds of borderline satirical nominations every year that the committee doesn't waste any time on. Kim Jong Un, for example, is nominated semi-regularly.

However, on reading the article, there is one substantive difference with this particular nomination: it's from Nobel Laureate David Trimble, who was co-winner of the 1998 Peace Prize for helping to bring peace to Northern Ireland. It's my understanding that since it's been made by a former laureate, the committee has to consider the nomination. They don't have to award it to Israel's Prime Minister, of course, but they do have to treat it more seriously than most of the other nominations they receive.
