David Dinkins dies: New York's First African American Mayor

David Dinkins New York City's first and so far only African American mayor has died at age 93. He served as mayor from 1990 to 1993 and was seen as a pioneer by many.

He was well known across the board and even though I don't remember much about him his brief time in office paved the way for others like him across the nation. Prior to becoming mayor he was Manhattan Borough president. He lost reelection in 1993 to Rudy Giuliani.

Koch, I had a mr. Mayor -- Ethel relationship with him

Bloomberg was a good mayor for his first 2 terms. As much as I personally dislike him, he knows how to run a large organization
