What if America joined the EU?

Postby Sundiata » Sun Nov 15, 2020 11:30 am

Yes, I know what you're thinking. Two different hemispheres.

However, if we put the namesake of the EU aside for a moment, I think that would be a positive development, not just for Europe, or the United States, but the world. EU member countries tend to top the charts of human development and it would be nice to see the American variants as part of an interhemispheric supernational structure. There are a variety of opinions here, some pro-EU, some quite euro-skeptic. There are some who believe the U.S to be a force for good in the world, some who disagree. It's also been posed to me that the entry of the United States into the union would establish a trend of American dominance as well. I personally disagree.

All of that noted, I'd like to hear your opinion.

While it doesn't make sense for the US to be a part of the EU, it would be cool to merge NATO and the EU and have a sort of Atlantic Economic Union. It could be called the NAU

Well then the EU would have to change their name because the US isn't in Europe

My thoughts exactly.
Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.

It may be better for there to be something similar to the EU in North America as well.

Please don't, EU is already a mess, we don't need to add the US to the pot.

This should occur immediately, to be quite frank. It would likely soothe the ethnic and religious tensions that already exist in the western hemisphere.

Enough about Unions and Names, there would be SEVERE economic change, and depending on how the Europeans react, rise or fall.

Welp, that point has been made. There's no need for me anymore...

I believe CETA was proposed as a first step to make this happen.

If that hot mess of corporate power-grabbing and obligatory lowering of product manufacturing standards is the result of US and EU joining forces, then it is NOT beneficial to any ordinary people.

NO, therefore.

If we joined the EU we would be completely enslaved by communists, socialists, Islamists, and countless other such heresies and degeneracies that are allowed to run amok in the despoiled home of world enlightenment

Nope, the Catholic Church is older than the United States, older than Communism, older than Socialism, older than Islam. We will not be defeated.

Focus on the mission.

The EU isn't communist. A bit too socially progressive, yes, but not anything that bad. I don't think the U.S. should join, but we wouldn't become a dystopia if we did.

We should make a North American Union with Canada and after a while maybe let Mexico join if they stabilize.

I'd like to see every country in South and Central America join such a union, if possible. It would be a great means of addressing the ethnic and religious tension in our hemisphere.

I think that can be maintained with an American military presence and evidence-based policy changes.

We should abandon neoliberalism and fight for better healthcare. I don't know how an American Union would play out though.

It would just create an ever bigger clusterfuck for everyone involved.

So no. Also the TTIP would have brought things close to that. Thankfully it never happened.

That was one of the Plans of Hillary Clinton for her 2016 election as she confided to Goldman Sachs bankers.

In my opinion, fantastic. But NAFTA doesn't go far enough. There needs to be open borders, and free movement of goods and people. Americans should be allowed free movement between Canada and Mexico.
