The Canadians would do their best to stay out of it, whether they think that means accepting refugees or sealing the border is the better approach. Yes. His term ends. Republicans arent going to somehow throw the election the house unless they want to never win another election again and face civil unrest that would make the Civil Rights protests in the 1960s look like nothing.

They have an off ramp; they can conceivably claim after the results were certified that they were just waiting to the votes to be confirmed.
