On the flip side, why should rural voters have a disproportionate amount of power in choosing who runs the executive, as compared to city voters?

Flipping the side again... when the urban demographic are accustomed to majority popular vote privileges, equality in political voice feels like oppression.

The news channel I was watching didn't even follow the whole thing. They cut out after he just started rambling about voter fraud. It was pretty funny.

Because that is how democracy works. Majority get the final say. And besides a popular vote would not mean rural areas can just be ignored. Urban areas are not going to vote 100% one way and both sides are going to want rural votes to get a majority.
