Agreed. That's why I'm a bit hesitant to say that x won or y won. Not a smart thing for Trump to declare victory, or Biden for that matter, (thankfully he didn't, yet,) or Google treating genuinely leaning states the same as they're treating states where margin of victory is less than one percent.

Google is literally just coloring their map with who's currently leading, regardless of margin.

I am astonished - in my humble yet professional opinion, it is clear to me that some of the ballots cast towards one of the candidates of the Democrat, Republican, and Libertarian Parties in the United States of America may have to be declared null and void and subsequently recounted in order to gain an accurate view on votes cast during the MMXX United States of America Presidential Election between primarily Donald John Trump and Joseph Robinette Biden Jr..

Bloomberg: Who's giving to Trump and Biden?

I'm sure this must have been posted already, but this is pretty stark confirmation that the Democratic Party is the party of the managerial class.

Biden's top supporters were managers, teachers, lawyers, professors, consultants, engineers.

Trump's top supporters were business owners*, drivers, truckers, homemakers, construction workers, contractors.

*presumably small, bc the above chart of massive organisations is ALL BLUE but for the NYPD and part of the military

Would guess this will have been replicated by vote. The Republican Party's future is in the multiracial working class. Will they acknowledge it? It would be singularly stupid of them not to do so

Trump's a market neoliberal, not a fascist. He's very far from being a fascist.

He flirts with nationalists and he is one himself, though, but fascism is so much different than just "I think my country is better than every other one in the world".

Ifreann wrote:Fascism in America in the new 10s and 20s is different from the fascism in Europe in the old 30s and 40s. This is to be expected, and is not evidence that Trumpism is not fascist. But if you do want a list of traits, Eco provides one in that essay. Features around which fascism can coagulate. Eco goes into more detail, but briefly:

1. The cult of tradition. A syncretistic belief that The Truth™ has already been revealed in the cultures of the past, and we can only learn to interpret it.
2. Rejection of modernism. The belief that the modern world is depraved and degenerate.
3. The cult of action for action's sake. Thinking is a form of emasculation, the intellectual world is not to be trusted, universities are a nest of reds.
4. Disagreement is treason. Modern, and modernist, intellectualism uses disagreement to improve knowledge, but syncretistic traditionalism cannot withstand analytical criticism.
5. Fear of difference. The first appeal of a fascist or prematurely fascist movement is an appeal against the intruder.
6. Appeal to a frustrated middle-class, a class suffering from an economic crisis or feelings of political humiliation, and frightened by the pressure of lower social groups. Eco predicted that the fascism of tomorrow would find its audience in the new majority of former proletarians turned petty bourgeois.
7. Obsession with a plot. Followers must feel besieged, both from with and from without. Thus the common fascist targetting of Jews, who are present in almost every nation but who can be cast as outsiders.
8. The enemy must be too weak and too strong. Followers must be humiliated by the wealth and force of their enemies, but must also believe that the enemy can be overwhelmed.
9. Life is permanent warfare. There is no struggle for life, but life is lived for struggle. Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy.
10. Popular elitism. Every citizen belongs to the best people of the world, the members of the party are the best among the citizens, every citizen can (or ought to) become a member of the party. But the citizens need a Leader, and the masses must be weak to have such a need. Each level of the hierarchy despises those below, and so there is a mass elitism.
11. Cult of death. Fascists crave a heroic death, the best reward for the heroic life they are educated to live. And since they are impatient to die, they frequently send others to their deaths.
12. Machismo. Permanent war and heroism are difficult games to play, so fascists shift their will to power to sexual matters, and disdain sexual liberation for women and uncommon sexual practices. But sex is a difficult game too, who would ever want to fuck a fascist, and so there is another shift to play with weapons in the very obvious substitute phallus sense.
13. Selective populism. Fascists condemn democratic governments as not representing the will of the people, but to fascists "The People" is a theatrical fiction, unrelated to the actual population of citizens and what they want and value. It is conceived as a monolithic entity expressing a Common Will, which is interpreted by the Leader. Eco predicted a TV or internet populism, in which the emotional response of a selected group of citizens can be presented and accepted as the Voice of the People.
14. Newspeak. All the Nazi or Fascist schoolbooks made use of an impoverished vocabulary, and an elementary syntax, in order to limit the instruments for complex and critical reasoning.
