Why would people lie about something like this and waste enormous amounts of time writing about and spreading it when it was so radically against everything that existed before? And on top of that, why would so many people be willing to die for it for centuries after the event?

But did they die for it for centuries prior to it being accepted? Many of the Christian martyrs died under intense persecution hundreds of years before the Roman Empire adopted Christianity.

I agree. That does not make it factually accurate. All it showed is that a lot of Christians were sincere.

The crucifixion of Jesus is historical fact.
That’s actually likely true due to Josephus and Tacitus especially the latter as a hostile witness. But was the resurrection a fact? Is Menachem Schneerson alive or not? People can be mistaken. There are Chabad Messianists out there who believe he has resurrected. That does not make it true.

How many people could be wrong? The 1st century AD wasn't exactly the Dark Ages, it was one of the most prosperous and interconnected periods in history prior to today.
Fact is, a Man was crucified, rose from the dead in complete contradiction to Jewish theology, and ascended to heaven attested by contemporary witnesses.

Clearly it's not a fact because it's not verifiable outside of your religion.

Do you believe there is wisdom in numbers? There are lots of Muslims who believe that Muhammad actually went to Jerusalem. If Christianity is correct then Islam must be incorrect and they must be wrong. So what went wrong here?
Mormons also claim that some really unlikely miraculous events happened around Joseph Smith. Is the fact that lots of people claim that Reformed Egyptian exists good evidence that it actually does?
Well, just like everything you said before if you apply this level of justification a lot of religions will be proven true. Since they can’t all be true we have to have a higher standard.

But were they subject to the kind of persecution Christianity was and able to not only withstand it for centuries but spread it throughout the known world and on top of that thrive?

Why do people believe in and spread Islam? Why do people believe in and spread Mormonism?
I think we should stop arguing. All I curse and hate is the precarious and unfair situation sentient life is in due to the conditions. Good luck. I hope at least some humans will get it right.

Why is the heresy known as Islam dying? Why is Mormonism a small and forgotten heretical version of Christianity? Fact is, Jesus the Christ rose from the dead and is the Son of Man and each of these heresies is dying for that reason.

Why is the heresy known as Islam dying? Why is Mormonism a small and forgotten heretical version of Christianity, one that went so south it literally broke its baptism. Fact is, Jesus the Christ rose from the dead and is the Son of Man and each of these heresies is dying. The Roman Catholic Church is the Rock of Peter.

Good luck dealing with Christian Africa, the root and rock of Christianity for the paganized West. And, hey, what is the punishment your "Prophet" requires for apostasy from Islam?
